Luke is a poweful and dynamic character. He's strong-willed, stubborn, and reckless, but he's overcome his younger years to become one of the wisest and greatest Jedi in history. Luke grew up on the desert planet of Tatooine under the supervision of his adopted aunt and uncle, Beru and Oen Lars, respectivly. Growing up on a moisture farm was not a featured life for Luke Skywalker. He spent most of his time dreaming of a life of high acton traveling the galaxy and fighting with the Republic army, much to the scrutiney of his uncle. Then, in one dramatic day, Luke's life changed forever. Owen Lars bought two strange and intelligent droids named R2-D2 and C3PO. The droids led him away from the farm and he met Ben Kenobi. It turned out that Ben was a Jedi and R2 had a message for Ben from Alderaan. On the way home Luke and Ben find the Jawas that sold them the droids slaughtered. Luke rushes home to find his uncle's farm ravaged. Over the still smoldering bodies of his aunt and uncle he vows to leave Tatooine and become a Jedi so he can go with Ben and finally lead the life he'd been dreaming of. Things started off slow. Ben and Luke team up with Han Solo and the Wookie Chewbacca. Aboard their ship, the Millenium Falcon, they head for Alderaan. Unfortunatly, Alderaan has been destroyed by the Death Star, a terrible weapon built by the Empire. The team is able to hide on the Death Star and while Ben is off shuting down the sheild genorator Han and Luke go off to resuce Princess Leia. The recue was...humerous, but the team makes it out of the prison in time to see Ben slaughtered by Darth Vader. Leia, Luke, Han, and Chewie head for Yavin to take out the Death Star. Luke volenteers to pilot an X-wing and ends up the last fighter alive, he heads for the shaft that is the only hope of destroying the Death Star with Darth Vader hot on his trail. With the help of Han Solo Luke is able to destroy the vessel and become one of the Rebelion's greatest heros. But that wasn't the end for Luke Skywalker. It really wasn't even his greatest moment, but until that moment came, and even after, it was one of the ones he was most remembered for. He followed the rebels the Rebels to the icy world of Hoth where he had a close encounter with a wampa. After the base was destroyed by the Empire, Luke went to Degobah because of a vision of Ben he had seen just before being rescued from the wampa. On Degobah he met Yoda, an old Jedi master who had been instrumental in Ben's training. Luke learned a lot during his time with Yoda. At one point, Yoda gave him a very important test. He sent Luke into a cave filled with the dark side. Inside the cave Luke's fears came to life and he faced Darth Vader. He quickly cut off the enemies head, but when the helmet exploded he saw his own face inside the helmet, failing the test. Okay, I'm going to pause and try to explain this. It's really a key part of Luke's training. It showed the importance of intent. If Luke had really killed Vader at that time is would have been out of rage and hate, (elements of the dark side). So, by killing Vader he would be killing himself. Now, I don't really know if the alternative is possible but you would have to not kill out of hate so what would you kill out of? Or is that the point? Okay, I'll digress. Anyway, soon after Luke had a vision of Han and Leia being hurt and took off, much to Yoda and Ben's dissapointment. |
