| Belly of the Beast |
| Farscape did a better version of this episode. I must admit I don't like seeing writers rip off Ben Browder's ideas. This episode blatently reminds me of the Farscape episode of a similar name, where Talon gets swallowed by a Budong. They inject nuclear bombs into the creatures stomach lining and set them off, causing it to vomit them up. That on the side with a great character story arc the led to and built from some great situations. This episode was lacking in such character emotions. The hightend combat and lowered emotions, and character development made for a very uninteresting episode. While I admit that action is essential in a show like this, I think that the recent shift in focus to more combat and action has greatly depleted the show. The characters and their stories and emotions should be paramount, even in the wake of an action packed series. Star Trek didn't focus on action and fighting, they had characters, and relationships, and from that came action and great television. Andromeda had the potential to do the same, but things are starting to unravel. I agree with the reviewers at Slipstream who said that Beka and Tyr's dialouge about carrying on the mission should have been done better. It was bland. Beka wanted to continue for some promise, by an obligation, not because she cared either way. There were a few moments that worked. Harper's taste in music is applauded, and his determination to save Rommie honorable. He's grown up a lot over the last two years. |
