Description: Once a respectable aristocrat and senior council member of the Kirin' Tor, now he is a twisted comrade of Arthas and loyal servant of Ner'zul, the psyhic Lich King, once a revered Orc shaman. Kel' Thuzad delved into the dark arts and became more and more interested in it. He withdrew from society and became reclusive, backing away from the Light. Eventually he felt that his calling was to serve Ner'Zul and he put everything he had into serving him and corrupting the living. Anu'barak, the traitor king of Azjol-Nerub led him to The Frozen Throne where he witnessed a woman die and then transform into an Undead and proceed to rip apart her husband and cannibalize him. That is when he realized what he has gotten into and regretted it somewhat. Coming to the throne, after being led there by wraiths the Lich King threatened him and Kel'Thuzad gave his soul. He was coerced into it somewhat but he felt as if he had little to lose anyway and he wanted to see how much power he could get.  He was given a mission that called for his knowledge and charming personality. He was to corrupt the graineries in Lordaeron and turn the unsuspecting people into the Undead, but he would need help. Being a decent con man he winned many of the townsfolk over to his side. The vulnerable people wanting a change in their world, social equality, hope in any shape or form, were easy to sway. They would follow Kel'Thuzad to the end even if it meant betraying their people and even if it meant being Undead themselves. This new gathering of men and women was dubbed The Cult of the Damned.  Soon after he was transformed into a powerful Lich, so than in death and Undeath he would still sever his master.
Personality

Kel'thuzad is a very wise person and it was good thinking on Ner'Zuls part to let him keep his humanity, or what is presumed to be left.  In his younger days before becoming a Necromancer he was nicer and more sincere and not like the blood thirsty spell caster that he is today, but it is his nature to want power and power he found, but it cost him much. He is good at swaying people over to his side and he is loyal to those he meets and puts a lot of faith in those whom he serves. He is intelligent and determined and like said earlier, very power hungry.  He has a phobia of death and part of this is the reason he joined Ner'zul, a man who promised immortality. In truth, being immortal does not mean you cannot die, it just means you fail to age like a mortal.

Appearance

Height: Around 6' 1'
Hair color: Silver/Grey
Hair Length: Shoulder

Once he was young and attractive but then with time became an aging mage with grey hair but still handsome. This was all until he got turned into an immortal Lich. As a Necromancer he wore a red robes with crude images of skulls on them. He wore a [antalope] skull on his head and walked around with a one-handed staff. As a Lich his appearance is of a skeleton with no legs, floating on cold air. His teeth are sharp and he has two curved horns on his head and beard. He has chains on his arms and a Nemes-looking headdress like a pharaoh on his head. Around his waist he wears something like a dress but with large gems near the bottom.

Public Appearance

To the denizens of Azeroth he was admiriable, something that one would want to become, would look up to. He was gentle and kind, hardworking, and beautiful. Little did everyone know what burned inside this young man, what lay in wait for the time to come. He knew what his destiny had in store, even if it was considered corrupt by the people and even if his friends and fellow mages shunned him, thought of him as a freak, an outcast.

Private Appearance

He was always very curious and and as such he would seek things out even if it ment withdrawing from everything else. He had a unknown friend speaking to him and giving him advice and he decided to seek this person out. Kel is very protective of his work and also is very secretive and equally as diligent in them.

Lich

In WC3: TFT Lichs are powerful spellcasters but their weakness is that they need protection from troops and at best they can withstand a few minutes of unprotected combat.  Lichs are like the Undeads equivalent of an Alliances Archmage and make decent spellcasters. They can cast Death and Decay [Ultimate], Frost Armor,

Necromancer

In WIII: RC and WC3: TFT Necromancers are people that have learned the art of raising the dead. One Nercomancer can raise several corpses to fight and they can also slow down Heros for a short amount of time using Cripple.  One of the best known counters is to have a Spell Breaker [s] take over or kill the skeletons that are blocking the way to the Necromancers or have the Priest cast Dispel which I prefer. Necromancers can be very deadly and annoying if one has not learned to eliminate the skeletons to get to the vulnerable necromancer. If one is low on mana than it can also make things worse so one must havedecent mana reserves or potions to restore what is lost. One can also puchase Dispel wands at a merchant which are also useful if mana gets low.
A question some fans ask is if Kel'Thuzad submitted willingly to Ner'Zul or if he was forced or coerced. If you read 'The Road To Damnation' than you would have a better understanding of what happened. Here are a few points I would like to make:

At first glance it looks like coercion but even if he was coerced into it he still had a choice, he still could have still said 'No' and become a mindless Undead which is a more noble choice than the one taken.

He apparently wanted the power that came with being Ner'Zuls servant and if he did feel the least bit dirty and dislike being his servant than he obviously began to like it.

Yes, Ner'Zul did threaten Kel with death and torture but Kel still gave his soul even if afraid.

Ergo, one can only conclude he gave his soul
willingly even if coerced into it.
