WHY WERE THE GOSPEL WRITERS SO PRECISE IN DESCRIBING CHRIST'S BURIAL?
To prove more powerfully His bodily resurrection.

1- NEW TOMB:  The Gospel writers made a big deal of Jesus being buried in a NEW TOMB "in which no man had ever lain."  Why?  Because of the idea which comes from 2 Kings 13:21 () that if a dead body touched the bones of a prophet, the person could be instantly resurrected.  The Gospel writers were removing that argument by saying Jesus was buried in a new tomb never before used.  The Prophet Himself was the only resurrection power!

2- HEWN ROCK TOMB: Many tombs had secret passage ways out through the back in case a person in a coma who had been buried as dead should awaken, he could find his way out after the tomb had been sealed.  In Jesus' tomb, there was no way in or out.  It was carved into a rock.  They couldn't rock in the Rock of Ages!  Hallelujah!

3- ROMAN GUARDS: God provided unbiased, disinterested Roman soldiers as witnesses to provide testimony that He had arisen.  Their job was to prevent any movement of His body.  His body moved itself!  They failed their assignment and fell under the power of God!
