Descendants of Jesse Pope

 

 

Generation No. 1

 

     1.  Jesse1 Pope was born November 05, 1791 in Virginia, and died September 28, 1859 in Wilcox County, Georgia.  He married Elizabeth Disharoon November 28, 1814 in Cartwright, Green County,  North Carolina, daughter of William Disharoon.  She was born October 12, 1796 in North Carolina, and died April 12, 1869 in Wilcox County, Georgia.

 

Notes for Jesse Pope:

Was among the early settlers of Twiggs Co., Ga., moving there in 1816.  Jesse was in the War of 1812.  He volunteered at Snow Hill Green Co., North Carolina on 7/15/1813 and was honorably discharged at Fort Hampton, Cartwright Co., N.C. 1/15/1814.

Moved to Twiggs Co., Ga. in 1816.  Organized Pope's Church (now called Mount Pleasant Church) in Pulaski Co.  The church was near their home and they donated land for it.  Jesse and Elizabeth are both buried in the yard of this church.

Had one daughter and 10 sons, two of which died in infancy.  All the boys were born in Twiggs, Co. and 7 of them became Confederate soldiers.  Redman, Turner and Reuben lost their lives in the service.

Jesse Pope was on the Twiggs County Tax Digest 1818-1836.  He moved to Pulaski County in 1846.

       8           vii.        Turner Pope, born September 18, 1828 in Twiggs County, Georgia; died Bet. 1861 - 1863 in Civil War.  He married Abigail McDuffie.

       9          viii.        Bynum Pope, born April 23, 1830 in Twiggs County, Georgia.  He married Marisse C. Wilson December 16, 1852.

       10          ix.        David Pope, born December 19, 1833 in Twiggs County, Georgia.  He married Nancy Williams June 12, 1876.

       11           x.        Reuben Pope, born September 05, 1836 in Twiggs County, Georgia; died in Civil War.  He married Unknown December 18, 1865.

       12          xi.        Benjamin Franklin Pope, born March 15, 1840 in Twiggs County, Georgia.

     2.  Winifred2 Pope (Jesse1) was born September 27, 1815 in North Carolina, and died January 25, 1897.  She married Linson Brown.  He was born November 15, 1818, and died January 27, 1899.

     5.  Redding2 Pope (Jesse1) was born August 20, 1822 in Twiggs County, Georgia.  He married (1) Mary Churchwell.    He married (2) Margaret Minchew May 08, 1851.

       15           ii.        Calvin Jesse Pope, born 1855.  He married Eliza January 01, 1877.

     6.  Redmond2 Pope (Jesse1) was born August 20, 1822 in Twiggs County, Georgia, and died in Civil War.  He married Mary Margaret Woods November 04, 1847 in Pulaski County, Georgia.  She was born June 22, 18271, and died October 29, 1891 in Wilcox County, Georgia.
