for Jesse Pope: Was
among the early settlers of Twiggs Co., Ga., moving there in 1816.
Jesse was in the War of 1812. He
volunteered at Snow Hill Green Co., North Carolina on 7/15/1813 and was
honorably discharged at Fort Hampton, Cartwright Co., N.C. 1/15/1814. Moved
to Twiggs Co., Ga. in 1816. Organized
Pope's Church (now called Mount Pleasant Church) in Pulaski Co.
The church was near their home and they donated land for it.
Jesse and Elizabeth are both buried in the yard of this church. Had
one daughter and 10 sons, two of which died in infancy.
All the boys were born in Twiggs, Co. and 7 of them became Confederate
soldiers. Redman, Turner and Reuben
lost their lives in the service. Jesse
Pope was on the Twiggs County Tax Digest 1818-1836. He moved to Pulaski County in 1846. More
