"Harold D. Cook dies at age 78
Funeral services for Harold D. Cook, 78, who died Tuesday, June 12 at the
Colonial Lodge in Independence, will be held Friday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at the
Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Neodesha Cemetery.
Mr. Cook was born Aug. 29, 1900 in rural Fredonia to John and Arilla
(Stevens) Cook. He married Elizabeth R. Kebert in 1919 in Fredonia. They were
divorced in 1966. She survives in Neodesha. A retired farmer, he has lived in
Independence for the past 16 years.
Mr. Cook is survived by three sons, Ralph H. Cook, Neodesha; Donald Cook,
Independence, Mo.; and Keith Cook, Hutchinson; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Virginia)
Logan, Bartlesville, Okla.; four sisters, Mrs. Thelma Travis, Oklahoma City,
Okla.; Mrs. Beulah Black and Mrs. Hattie Collins, both of Fredonia; and Mrs.
Marguerite Thurber, Sweeney, Tex.; a brother, Delmont Cook, Tulsa, Okla.; 19
grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy; a
sister, Cleo; three brothers, Don, William and Kenneth; two grandsons and four
great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the American Cancer Society in
Mr. Cook's name. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.".

"Harold Cook Services Friday

Funeral services for Harold D. Cook, 78, of Independence, will be held Friday
at 2:00 p.m. at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home in Neodesha. Mr. Cook died

Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Eula Black and Mrs. Hattie Collins, both of Fredonia

J. C. Cook of Fredonia, former resident of Neodesha, passed away Wednesday,
April 8, at 3:50 a.m. at Fredonia. Funeral services will be held Friday at

Kenneth Cook and Harold Cook of Neodesha are sons of the deceased.

"J. C. Cook Services Held Friday in Fredonia.

Funeral services for J. C. Cook, Fredonia, former resident of Neodesha, who
passed away at St. Margaret's Mercy hospital in Fredonia Wednesday, April 8,
were held Friday, April 10, in the Methodist church at Fredonia, conducted by
Rev. A. L. Hardy, and interment was in the Fredonia city cemetery, under the
direction of the Cason Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Leland Bauman, Max
Cook, Carl Collins, Fred Cook, Donald Cook and Homer Caskey.
John Carl Cook, son of John M. and Sarah K. Cook, was born April 9, 1866, at
Rutland, Meigs county, Ohio. He departed this life April 8, 1953, at Fredonia,
Kansas.
Mr. Cook attended college in Rio Grande and Ada, Ohio, where he graduated in
1886. He came to Kansas with his mother in April of 1886. On December 5,
1886, he was married to Mary Arilla Stevens at Langsville, Ohio. To this union
was born 10 children, five sons and five daughters.
On February 2, 1887, he brought his bride to Kansas to make their home on a
farm in the Rock Creek neighborhood. They have since made their home in Wilson
county and for the past 14 years have resided at the home on South 15th Street,
Fredonia, where Mrs. Cook passed away January 20, 1953.
Mr. Cook leaves to mourn his passing five daughters, Mrs. Cleo Bauman, Mrs.
Hattie Collins and Mrs. Marguerite Thurber of Old Ocean, Texas; and five sons,
Don of Fredonia, William of Benedict, Harold and Kenneth of Neodesha and
Delmont of Tulsa, Okla. There are 43 grandchildren and 64 great grandchildren.
Among those from Neodesha who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Caven, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Moon, Mr. and Mrs. Lew Givens and Mrs. Ella Thurber.".

Last Rites To Be Held Friday At Methodist Church.

John C. Cook, 86, passed away April 8, at St. Margaret's Mercy hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday at the First Methodist church conducted
by Rev. A. L. Hardy. Burial will be in the Fredonia city cemetery under the
direction of the Cason Funeral Home.
Mr. Cook was born April 9, 1866, in Meigs county, Ohio. He was a farmer
northeast of town until his retirement about 15 years ago when with his wife he
moved to the present home on Fifteenth Street. Mrs. Cook passed away January
20, 1953.
Surviving relatives include: five daughters, Mrs. Rex Travis of Oklahoma
City, Okla., Mrs. Lee Thurber of Old Ocean, Tex., Mrs. Lloyd Black, Mrs. A. M.
Bauman and Mrs. Hattie Collins of this city; five sons, Don Cook of Fredonia;
Delmont Cook of Tulsa, Okla., and Harold and Kenneth Cook of Neodesha and
William Cook of Benedict.".

"Mrs. J. C. Cook Laid To Rest In Fredonia.

Funeral services for Mrs. J. C. Cook, who passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, at
St. Margaret's Mercy hospital in Fredonia, were held Thursday afternoon in the
Methodist church in Fredonia. The Rev. Arthur L. Hardy and the Rev. Charles P.
Knight were in charge of the services and interment was in the Fredonia
cemetery.
Jack Whitcomb sang "Ave Maria" and "Going Home," with Mrs. Orlin Sell at the
organ. Casket bearers were Robert Collins, Glen Bauman, Willis Cook, Ralph
Cook, Dewayne Cook and Charles Ratt, grandsons of Mrs. Cook.
Arvilla M. Stevens was born June 2, 1867, at Langsville, Ohio, to Willard and
Mary Phelps Stevens. She was married on December 5, 1886, at Miggs, Ohio, to
John C. Cook and they came to Kansas in 1887, locating on a farm northeast of
Fredonia. Mr. and Mrs. Cook celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary December
5, 1952.
In 1926 they retired from farming and moved to a home in Fredonia where they
had since made their home, with the exception of 10 years from 1929 to 1939
when they lived in Neodesha, returning then to their home in Fredonia where
they have since resided.
Survivors include her husband, John C. Cook; five sons, Don Cook of Fredonia,
William Cook of Benedict, Delmont Cook of Tulsa, Ok., Harold and Kenneth Cook
of Neodesha; five daughters, Mrs. Ula Black, Mrs. Hattie Collins, Mrs. A. M.
Bauman, all of Fredonia, Mrs. Rex Travis of Oklahoma City, Ok., and Mrs. Lee
Thurber of Old Ocean, Texas. Forty-three grandchildren and 60 great grand-
children also survive, most of whom were present at the funeral services.".

Hospital in Fredonia. She had been in failing health for several months.
Mrs. Cook leaves her husband and ten children: Mrs. A. M. Bauman, Mrs. Hattie
Collins, William Cook, Delmont Cook, Don H. Cook, Harold Cook, Mrs. Eula Black,
Mrs. Rex Travis, Mrs. Lee Thurber and Kenneth Cook.
Mrs. Thurber who resides in Old Ocean, Texas, has been in Fredonia for the
past three weeks helping care for her mother.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist
church in Fredonia.".
