My Grandmother Bonnie Ather Davis used to tell a story about one of her grandmother's funeral's. Unfortunately I never asked her grandmother's name. This was long before I can interested in my family history. The story she told went like this: One of her Grandmother's died and all of the family was at the house setting up with her at the house. Apparently she (grandmother) was all laid out and in her coffin, and the family were their for the wake. Grandmother got up out of her coffin and ask everyone what they all were doing in her house. Bonnie said it scared her really bad. I remember asking my grandma (Bonnie) how could a dead person get up out of a coffin, thinking that all people were emabalmed and etc.,she told me that back then they didnt do that stuff. And I had asked her how someone could mistaken a live person for a dead person. She told me her grandmother has not woke up for a few days so everyone thought she was dead. This didnt really make alot of sense to me, thinking to myself, that you could tell if someone was breathing, or had a heart beat. I wish I would have questioned my grandmother about this, which one of her grandmother's this was,but I was just a young girl when she told this story. But in my research, it could have been her grandmother; Mary Ann "Polly" (Redmon) Burnett, Mary Jane "Polly" Davis, Nancy Margret (Bell) Burnett. If anyone else has had this story told them throughout the generations, and knows the idenity of "grandma", would you please email and let me know. GRANDMA HAS BEEN FOUND- Her identity is Mary "Polly" Redmond Burnett. She is buried at Pleasant Run Cemetery.
