John Burnett born about 1660 in Old Rappanock County Virginia- DIED May 1718 in Essex County Virginia. MARRIED Amee Gatewood, daughter of John Gatewood and Amy McGraw. Amee was born December 1668 South Farnham Parish,Essex County Virginia. DIED- December 1749 in Essex County Virginia. John Burnett died before the birth of last child, Jermiah Burnett. Amy married (2nd) David Scott.
John owned a tobacco plantation and was in business with his brother Thomas Burnett

Will Made: September 17, 1717

IN THE NAME OF THE LORD AMEN!!! I, John Burnett of Essex County being sick and weak in body, but of sound and perfect memory praised be GOD for the same and knowing the uncertainty of this chancetory life and that all flesh is grass and must stoop to death and being desirous to settle things in order before I hence and be no more seen. Do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following; In prionis, I give and bequeath my soul unto the hands of the GOD ALMIGHTY, my creator and maker who gave it to me assured my believing that I shall recieve full pardon free and absolute remission of all my sins and asaved in by and through in precious death of his son, my meditor and redeemor,JESUS CHRIST. I bequeath my body to the ground from whence it was taken, to be buried in a decent christian manner, as to my executrix and executor hereafter named shall be thought meet and fit and as for my worldly goods which god in his mercy hath lent me, my will and pleasure is that they should be employed and bestowed as hereafter appointed. I give unto my dear and loving wife, Amey Burnett, one negro named "Will" to hers and her heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my son John Burnett, one mulatto girl named "Cate" to him and his heirs forever. I give unto my son Joseph Burnett a negro girl named "Sue" to him and his heirs forever. I give unto my daughter Anne Burnett, a negro woman named "Jenny" to her and her heirs forever. I give unto my daughter Amey Burnett, a negro girl named "Moll" to her and her heirs forever. Further it my desire is that my 2 sons, John and Joseph Burnett be of age at the year of 16, that they recieve their estate then. I give the rest of my estate to be equally divided between my loving wife and my five childern to them and their heirs forever. Further my desire is that all my lands be equally divided between my two sons, John and Joseph Burnett to them and their heirs forever. Further it my will and desire is that my land may be divided among them when they arrive at 16. I hereby constitute, ordain and appoint my loving wife Amey Burnett and my well beloved brother; Thomas Burnett Jr, my sole and whole exectors of this my last will and testament. Some of my will being on the backside of the sheet of paper wherefore I have affixed my hand and seal on this seventeenth day of September 1717. JOHN BURNETT
