Hey Everyone! Just wanted to send out an email telling yall how I did this weekend. I also wanted to take a minute to thank all of yall for your prayers and support that you have shown me for my first race. I placed third in my division and hopefully next time I will do better. I know where I have my wrinkles to iron out and next time I will wake up on time. I woke up late and had breakfast late, so my breakfast was sitting on my stomach through the entire race slowing me down. I finished with an overall time of an hour and 23 minutes: Swim Time - 0:15:57.637 Transition 1 - 0:02:17.179 (spandex is hard to get up a set of wet legs, one lesson learned) Bike - 0:37:13.323 Transition 2- 0:00:59.345 Run - 0:27:05.536 Overall - 1:23:34.020 I had some good times compared to the guys in my division, the guy before me finished in an hour and 21 mins, so I was right on his heals too. But the first mile of the run was hard, for most tris it is hard anyway, but with my stomach feeling the way it was I hatein it. Then this little 55 year old man passed me with the simple phrase Thank Jesus written on the back of his jersey. I knew that was God telling me something and it carried me the last two miles of the race right behind that guy with a final push at end. I shook the guys hand and gave him a pat on the back and thanked him for the inspiration. Those two simple words meant so much to me and then this morning at church in the bulletin for a youth function was the phrase we all know: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me But I got an awesome T-shirt and a cool medal for my third place win. Not a bad experience at all for my first race, I leaned a lot to apply in my next one. So thanks again to all you that showed me support in the last five months. It has been a long hard road and what an accomplishment it is. I also want to give a special thank you to my mother whose presence this weekend was an awesome help to me mentally and physically. She carried around my pre/post race bag and was there to cheer me on and got some awesome pics that I am going to load up to a web page later on. So thanks Mom for everything! Hopefully my next race will be this weekend in Jacksonville, if not then the next one is June 26 just north of Macon about 45 mins south of Atlanta. I will be camping out that weekend so if anyone wants to come and cheer me on, all are welcome! Thanks again everyone for helping through this! With much thanks and appreciation, Gene Lary Jr.
