Thunder comes on the air and we go to the announce table where Scott Hudson is with Mark Madden. Hudson: Welcome to WCW THUNDER! We have a loaded show tonight for you all. The TV, Tag Team, US and World titles are all on the line tonight. Madden: The greatest TV Champion ever Shane Douglas will take on former Cruiserweight Champion Jaime Knoble. And speaking of the Cruiserweight title, Tony Mamaluke and Little Guido team up to take on Lash LeRoux and Bill DeMott tonight as well. Hudson: It could be a big night for the Triple Threat as C.W. Anderson gets a chance at the World Title while Chris Candido takes on US Champion William Regal. Madden: That is the British Heavyweight Champion William Regal Baldie. Hudson: Whatever. Also fresh off their upset of the Hart Foundation Brian Christopher and Steve Blackman take on the New Hart Foundation for the tag team titles. All that and much more. First lets go to the back where Mike Tenay is with William Regal. Tenay: Thank you Scott. Mr. Regal, tonight you face off with Chris Candido. However I want to talk to you about your US title defense at Slamboree where you will be facing Scott Steiner. Regal: Listen Mr. Tenay, that is just what I want to talk about. It seems that our CEO Mr. Ric Flair has seen fit to place me into a match where my very career could be at stake. Well as the British Heavyweight Champion I was at first upset until my attorney told me that Mr. Flair and WCW would be responsible for any damages done. However that wasn't enough so I added a little stipulation to my match with Mr. Steiner. At Slamboree after I beat that miserable little toe rag Scott Steiner I will be the number one contender to the world title. No of course should Mr. Steiner beat me he would get that title, but that isn't going to happen. Now if we are all set I would like to go prepare for my match.
Tenay: Thank you for your time Mr. Regal.
Shane Douglas pinned Jaime Knoble with the Franchiser in 0:07:05. The TV Champion Shane Douglas defended against Jaime Knoble who had a great showing on Nitro. This match went back and forth with Knoble holding his own. The end came when Knoble missed a flying clothesline. Shane quickly hit the Franchiser and got the win. We then go to the back where Mean Gene is with Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart. Mean: Guys, since losing those tag team titles you have been having a hard time of it here in WCW. Bret: You are right Gene. We haven't been able to pick up a win since losing those belts. Jim: Don't you think we know that Gene, we aren't stupid. Bret: Excuse him Gene, he hasn't been taking it real well. Now we have been hearing a lot of rumors about our tag team. Some say that we are over the hill and should pack it in. Some say that we are going to break up as a team and go our separate ways. Neither of those are even close to the truth. We are going to regroup and do what we do best. Jim: And that is tag team wrestling. Mean: Tonight the New Hart Foundation will be in action against a team that beat you on Nitro, Steve Blackman and Brian Christopher. Bret: Well that team is a lot like us. They don't look like a great team on paper and together don't look like they should be teaming. But they have great teamwork and are great wrestlers. They could pull the upset. Jim: However we want to make one thing clear. We are going to get those titles back one way or another.
Mean: Looks like the tag team division is
going to be heating up.
The New Hart Foundation defeated Steve Blackman and Brian Christopher
when L. Storm pinned Blackman after a legsweep in 0:09:38. Steve and Brian didn't quite get the tag team titles during this match. Both teams had great teamwork and it could have went either way. The New Hart Foundation hit the Hart Attack on Brian but Steve broke it up. Blackman then hit a superkick knocking Owen out of the ring. Blackman attempted to hit Lance with his Pumpkick but Lance ducked and then hit a legsweep on Blackman and got the three count. We then went to the back where we see Jeff Jarrett and Ric Flair coming to the ring. Flair: Come on Jeff, this isn't going to prove anything. So what if you beat this kid, he isn't really much of a threat to us. Jarrett: Hold it right there Ric, tonight I prove that he doesn't belong in WCW. Madden: Who are they talking about? We then go break.
After the break we see Jeff Jarrett in the ring
when 'Highway to Hell' plays and the runt of the littler Spike Dudley
charges the ring.
Spike Dudley pinned Jeff Jarrett with the Acid Drop in 0:07:06. The giant killer didn't kill a giant tonight, but he did pull a huge upset. Jeff Jarrett had the match in control but kept pulling Spike up. He then pulled Spike up one too many times and Spike hit a low blow followed by the Acid Drop for the win. Hudson: SPIKE WINS! I don't believe it, Spike just beat the former world champion Jeff Jarrett!! Madden: I can't believe it, I just can't believe it. Hudson: Our next match will be Roddy Piper taking on Vampiro, but lets see why this match is going to take place.
We see footage from Nitro where Roddy Piper is
taking on Mortis. We then see Vampiro interfering and costing
Mortis the match.
Roddy Piper made Vampiro submit to the Sleeper in 0:06:43. Roddy Piper picked up another win here in WCW this time over Vampiro. This match saw Vamp's number one nemesis Mortis interfere costing him the match. After the match Mortis attacked Vamp but Roddy Piper chased him off as we go to break. After the break we see Mike Tenay with Roddy Piper. Tenay: Roddy Piper, you asked for this time. Piper: Yeah I did ask for this time Mike. It seems that I have been caught in the middle of a war between Vampiro and Mortis. Well if they want to beat the hell out of each other that is fine with me, but not on my time. So at Spring Stampede our fair CEO Ric Flair has given me a match between Mortis and Vampiro. Tenay: Are you saying you will be getting into the ring with both me? Piper: That is right, a three way dance.
The FBI (Little Guido Maritato and Tony Mamaluke) defeated After the problems these two teams had on Nitro a tag match was signed here on Thunder. There wasn't much settled in this match really. The FBI got the win here. After the match the Mamalukes hit the ring and attacked LeRoux and DeMott. This brought out Scott Taylor who chased off the FBI with a chair. Hudson: The FBI made a quick retreat when the odds began to even up. Madden: Hey, Scott had a chair. That isn't fair at all. Hudson: Speaking of fair, lets go to our CEO.
Flair: Thank you Scott. I wanted to
talk about a few things here in WCW. First off is you Scott Steiner.
You think you can bully your way into a title match? Well I
can't take the match back, but I can do everything I can to make sure
you don't make it that far. Not only do I have you running wild
around here I now have William Regal threatening WCW with a lawsuit.
So tonight it will be you Scott taking on the 500 pound Paul Wight.
Also it seems that Johnny the Bull and Big Vito like to interfere in
people's matches so tonight you are going to take on myself and The Enforcer. WHOO!
Scott Steiner pinned Paul Wight after hitting him with a foreign
object in Scott Steiner got the win in this match after hitting Paul Wight in the head with his lead piper. There wasn't much to the match but rights, lefts and power moves. After the match Steiner went crazy attacking Wight's leg with his pipe before security handcuffed Steiner and took him to the back. We then see Jeff Jarrett walking down the hall when he passes Curt Hennig. Hennig: Nice match there Double J. The Chosen One, HA! Jarrett: You talking to me Curt? You have a problem with me? Hennig: No, but you did give me a good laugh, I can't believe you couldn't beat that little runt Spike Dudley. Jarrett: Well since I am a good friends with the boss how about I make a match for Nitro between you and Spike.
Hennig: Well I would hate to show you up, but
you got it.
Sting pinned Mortis with the Scorpion Death Drop in 0:07:15. Sting took on former Ministry partner Mortis in the next match. The match was a back and forth match. We see in the back both Vampiro and Roddy Piper watching the match. Mortis seemed ready to hit the Flatliner when Sting countered with an eye gouge. Sting then spun Mortis around and hit the Scorpion Death Drop for the win.
Ric Flair and Arn Anderson defeated The Mamalukes when Flair pinned The Mamalukes put up a hell of a fight but the experience of Flair and Anderson really proved to be the difference. The Mamalukes hit their finisher, the Swinging DDT followed by the flying legdrop but Flair broke up the pin. This erupted into a brawl which brought out Scott Taylor. Taylor hit Johnny in the back of the leg with a chair setting up the figure four and the win for Flair and Anderson. We then go to break After the break we see Curt Hennig in the ring.
Hennig: Hey Chosen One, you watching in the back?
This is how you beat a j-brone who doesn't even belong in WCW.
Just Joe, prepare to be Perfectly defeated.
Curt Hennig pinned Just Joe with the Hennig Plex in 0:08:58. Curt Hennig really put Joe through the paces here. Joe come out hot and got several quick near falls but that was it for Joe. Hennig caught him when he set for a backdrop to early. Hennig then went to work hitting all of his usual moves before ending it with the Hennig Plex.
Hennig: Now that is what I call---ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!
Hardcore: Rhino and Ray Traylor had a rematch from several weeks ago. Traylor is the self proclaimed king of hardcore. This match was all over the building and ended in the car park. The end saw Rhino gore Traylor into the production truck followed by the Rhino Recliner and got the win. After the match we see Gangrel laughing from his locker room. Hudson: Rhino seems ready to take anyone and everyone here in WCW. Madden: That's true Scott, but where does he go? Scott Steiner and Vader already have title shots. It is hard to make a TV title shot this early, so where does Rhino go? Hudson: Well Rhino will probably be getting a title shot shortly after Slamboree so don't worry Mark. Up next one half of our double main event, William Regal and Chris Candido.
After the break we see Chris Candido come out with
his Triple Threat mates C.W. Anderson and Shane Douglas.
William Regal the comes out and we have our match.
William Regal pinned Chris Candido with the Cobra Neckbreaker in 0:07:54. This match was back and forth between these two men. During the match both C.W. and Shane interfered which brought out Ric Flair and Arn Anderson. Soon it was a brawl at ringside between those four men. The official then went to the floor to break it up. This brought out Jeff Jarrett through the crowd how hit Candido with the guitar setting up the Cobra Neckbreaker for the win. We go to break with security coming out to break up the fight at ringside.
Booker T pinned C.W. Anderson with the Book End in 0:05:28. C.W. wasn't on the top of his game thanks to the brawl during the last match. This didn't stop C.W. from having a decent showing. Booker however is at his best and that means he might be unstoppable. The end came when C.W. missed the Spinebuster when Booker floated over and Booker hit the Book End for the win. |
