The second reading provides an example of policy advice on gender and transport given in Africa under the auspices of a World Bank project. It draws attention to the importance of participatory processes in the field of gender and transport.
We have argued in the body of this course that access to transport and equally important access to communication is a fundamental dimension of women's empowerment. For the millennium development goals to be met specific attention has to be paid to issues of gender, transport and communication.
