Attractions:

The many interesting historical sites present on the well-known "Werf" encapsulate the history of Genadendal. The "Werf" is an afrikaans word referring to a central place, similar to a plain, where the major historical sites are located. The following sites are present:

The Church
Tourist will be shown the inside of the church, which unique to the Moravian tradition, still harbours a demarcation, which previously separated male, female and children church attendees. A spectacular, woodwork, organ and chandeliers will be of interest. The Moravian Church has the largest percentage of inhabitants as members. They are known for their, beautiful choir singing and brass band performances

The Museum:
The museum was declared a cultural monument a few year ago. Historical furniture, tools used by the Khoi-Khoi, medical instruments of the missionaries and implements used during the establishment of the mission station are original. Further attractions are the first hearse drawn by horses and the first transport cart of George Schmidt. more...

Water Mill
The water mill built in 1796, is still in operation and supplies flour to the museum bakery.Stone ground flour and traditionally baked bread in open air ovens available on certain days.

Historical Graves
Graves of the early missionaries are still to be seen and are kept in good condition.

Historical Pear Tree
The wood of the first pear tree planted in 1738 was used to make a wooden box to safeguard the first Bible of George Schmidt. Offspring of the original pear tree are growing in a special garden.

Genadendal Printing Works
This is the first press in the country to have printed Afrikaans and one of the oldest still in operation.
