Understanding Biotechnology

Definition: The use of microorganisms, such as bacteria or yeasts, or biological substances, such as enzymes, to perform specific industrial or manufacturing processes. (www.dictionary.com)

OK, let's not worry about the definition. The main thing is that this site - courtesy of The Globe and Mail - provides some very pertinent links.  In addition to the links to specific articles which are listed below, there are links to both Canadian and International sites.  These sites provide you with links to literally THOUSANDS of other sources for information.  Many of these sites contain search mechanisms, so you can check out "bioethics" and "ethics" and other related terms.  Go for it and let me know what you think.

Globe and Mail articles:  The Globe and Mail offers numerous links of value to our research.  Among the headings you will find at the link below are those related to Agriculture, Biotechnology, Ethics, Farming, Genetics and Pharmaceuticals.

Read About Human Cloning

The following link is to Amazon.com and some of that company's available books (January 2001) relating to issues of human cloning.  I cannot comment on any of them but there are some editorials provided by other readers.

The Human Cloning Foundation

This is an apparently popular site for those who wish information about human cloning.  It is proactively in favour of the process, by the way.  The site appears to be a valuable resource as it provides many links to such things as books, interviews, movies, articles and so that relate to the topic.  Following the "about" link will also provide you with suggestions on how you can use the HCF as a reference in an essay!

Council for Biotechnology Information

This is a Canadian site and it is completely in support of genetic modification of foods (among other things).  There are lots of articles and links which support the Council's purpose.

IVF.net (InVitrio Fertilization)

This site advertises itself as a resource for patients and scientists involved in IVF.  Aside from topical information, it includes a summary of recent news items from various international resources

The Ethical Challenges of Green Biotechnology for Developing Countries

This is a site supported by NOVARTIS.  One must therefore expect a bias.  It could be interesting nonetheless as it does focus on ethical considerations.
