"A Piece of the Homeland". The background is the view from my home in south Carthage Maine USA. The inspiration for the painting.

I climbed each mountain top in the painting and obtained local bedrock specimens. I use these specimens as paint to represent each locale accordingly.

The top is Moose Hill, Livermore ,ME, USA; a hard mica schist and granite with terminiated crystal points flowing through out.
The next layer is granite and black tourmaline obtained from Warren road, Livermore, ME, USA.
The next, darker layers are mica schists from Clay Brook Road and US Route 17, Jay , ME, USA.
Then I ran into the rusty mica schists and cherty slates of Severy Hill and Science Hill East Dixfield, ME, USA.

This is the "Blast" rock obtained from the blasting of this hillside to make way for an expanded highway.

The black rock is tar from US Route 2, East Dixfield, ME. USA.
The large mass of shiny mica schist is Butterfield Hill, East Dixfield, ME, USA.

This painting is on display at the 2003 Florence Biennale, December 6-14, 2003.
