Martha Jones was one of the brightest students to grace paragon university, not that you'd ever get her to admit it. When not experimenting in the lab she was in her dorm room reading. Her one regret was that as a shy mousy girl nobody ever noticed her. That was until one day while working late in the lab she met a strange, foreign student who started to talk to her about the possibility of engineering a chemical to unlock a body's true potential. Between the two of them over the next few months they created this drug and Martha herself was the one to try it. She was ill for a  week as her body grew and she developed her powers. Now Martha never goes unnoticed and she has found the confidence she so badly needed.
