Gemini Network projects:
Create your own Laser.
Ever wanted to create your own laser? Well, now you can, with these fairly simple instructions. And, as long as youi have your own tools, you will own your own ruby laser in a matter of weeks. TIP: DONT BUILD THIS IF YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT LASER SAFETY!
*****************************
WHAT
YOU WILL NEED:
A cylindrical rubyyyyyyyyyyyyy
A quartz flash tube
A car battery
A metal tube
Wires
2 mirrors, one 95% reflective.
******************************
To see how your laser will work, then visit the Gemini laser site HERE.
Here are the instructions on how to build your laser:
1. Build a mount for the ruby, do this by connecting it to a peice of metal that will fit in your metal tube.
2. Attach the quartz flash tube so that it creates a coil around the laser. Then, attach a 100% reflecting mirror to the end of the ruby that is not at the front of the laser. Then, attach a 95% reflective mirror to the other end.
3. Attach the flash tube to the car battery by wires, but dont connect the wires, leave them seperate for now as to not complete the circuit.
4. Put crocodile clips on the wires. Instead, you could fit a switch, but this is a little complicated.
5. Put the entire thing inside the metal tube, and polish the insided first.
There you have it! It should get about 30-90 minutes continuous use from a standard car battery. You can also use household batteries.
