I own two horses, Buda and Frosty...Here's a little about both of them!
Frosty
Frosty AKA Lusty is my main show horse. He is a 16hd Flea bitten grey Appendix Quater Horse. He can jump the moon, and is a very cute mover, but he can be GRUMPY (but what horse cant?)! We thought he wasn't to bright, he stares of into the distance as we go cross country....till we get to the jump then its like hes saying "OMY GOSH, CRAP!" but he most of the time jumps it anyways no matter how funky it looks, until a few days ago we realized he knows how to undo snaps. No joke he can undo the saftey release snaps (he did it 3 times in my trainers trailer!) he can also undo the normal snaps (he's done it twice in my trailer and just yesterday he unhooked his lead rope snap and went for joy run around the pasture!) He does Eventing, Dressage, and Hunter/Jumper. Here is a little about those sports..
Eventing
Eventing is the total test of a horses abilities. The first day you have Dressage, the harmonious "dancing" of horse and rider. This takes skill and total control and understanding of your horse. On the second day the horses endurance and speed is challenged in steeple chasing and cross country. In steeple chasing horses have to gallop at top speed while being careful enough to clear the obstacles in thier way. Cross county is where horses are challenged with difficult solid natural obstacles, and must maintain a fast pace. The third and final day is stadium. Horses must be sound enough and awake enough to clearly negotiate a course of obstacles. For more info on Eventing you can visit USCTA
Hunter/Jumper
In Hunters they look for a relaxed horse with a round jump and square knees, making all fence spots. The turns are wide and lines contain usualy 5 to 6 strides. Jumps can be any where from 18", for begginers, to 3'6", for advanced. The rider should be quite in two point releasing over the fence. Sometimes for close calls they will ask riders to work the rail. The trot should be big with back round and neck level with the withers and nose straight up and down. The canter should be 12' with the same postioning having the horse push with its rear. And all transitions should be quite.
Buda
Buda was my first horse and I still love him! He hs jumped 5' and is currently being leased by my good freind. He's a 15.3hd Bay Appendix Quarter Horse Gelding. He's purty smart but very lazy! We love him anyways =)
