The Haunted Mansion - Continued

Upon reaching the second floor landing the friends looked around them as if trying to figure out where they were at the moment in their quest of escaping this mansion.

NINJARA
Where do we go from here, how do we get out of this horrible place?
LEONARDO
This seems to be the main corridor, we're on the second floor now.  Let's hope it leads to a back staircase and the way out.
RAPHAEL
That is, if we find it soon before anything bad happens to us.
LEONARDO
I'm sure we'll escape by then, Raph.

The great leader begins walking away, stops and turns back to the others who just stand there nervously, undecided about whether to keep going or not.

LEONARDO
Well, come on, let's keep going.  We'll never find the EXIT just standing around.
DONATELLO
    He's right, let's go.
MICHAELANGELO
    I'm all for that, Donnie.

Usagi, Ninjara and Leatherhead agreed also, they must keep going if they planned on finding another way out in the end, so they followed Leo down the hallway in search of the EXIT.  On their way the gang passed another endless passageway with doors on both sides that seemed to strech into oblivion, never ending.  Chandliers hung from the ceiling, barely casting enough light down to penetrate the darkness in the hallway beyond.  Suddenly there came a strange sound from far down that never-ending passageway, making the friends stop dead in their tracks.

LEATHERHEAD
    Huh?  What's that sound?
USAGI
Yes, it sounds like howling cries, like wolves.
MICHAELANGELO
    Wolves?!! <panics> In here?
NINJARA
And look, I can see a faint glow. <she points> Like an orange light of sorts.

Sure enough, a faint orange light could be seen like a beacon but it seemed to be moving, coming straight towards them!

RAPHAEL
Duh, that light is coming this way.
DONATELLO
Hey, I hear hoofbeats approaching. <curious> That sounds like horses.
MICHAELANGELO
    Horses?  In here, no way.
LEATHERHEAD
Sure sounds like horses, Mikey.  And it's getting closer.
MICHAELANGELO
    Oh, noooooo.
NINJARA <cries out>
    LOOK! <points in terror>
LEONARDO
    What the heck?!!
USAGI
    It can't be!
EVERYBODY
IT'S THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN OF SLEEPY HOLLOW!

From out of nowhere, galloping towards the terrified mutants was a rider dressed in red-black jacket, pants, cape, gloves, boots astride a black horse but unfortunately, the rider had no head!  Instead, its head was held high in one gloved hand and in the other hand was held a gleaming sword.

The black steed reared up on its back legs, pawing the air with its front legs menacingly and whinnied in anger while its master, the headless horseman goblin, the famous ghost from the Disney animated film "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" stood tall and straight in the saddle waving both its head and sword in the air and laughing evilly at its frightened mortals who cowered before it.

EVERYBODY
    AAAAAAAAAAUGH! <scream like Charlie Brown>
LEONARDO
    Quick, in this doorway!

At the last second the friends ran towards an open door across the hallway and then crouched, flattened against the doorframe they peered back out.  Through the dimly lit mist of the upstairs corridor they watched the goblin ride away, still laughing its crazy laugh as though it was enjoying the cruel joke it played on the mortals.  Then in a flash of fire and brimstone...the ghost vanished from sight and faded away into nothingness as the ghost host's voice spoke.

GHOST HOST
It's nice to see the folks enjoying themselves...in my home, every room has wall to wall creeps and hot and cold running chills...But it has to take the time to give it that comfortable unliving look, hmhmmhmmm...
