Author's Note: Ok, at the start here I ad libed a bit, as I felt that there was a piece left out of the episode. Nothing much, just enough to get point A from the end of the last chapter to point C at the place the episode picked up. And again, Mega Man and all related characters/concepts/ect. are copyright Capcom, and whoever else helped with the cartoons.
Chapter 7
Dr. Light sighed as he finished wielding the metal panel over the hole Wily had left. He was worried for his creations, much more that mere robots to him. they were his children. But they were in Wily’s clutches, being reprogrammed or remodeled or destroyed or who-knew-what. Dr. Light felt helpless to do anything.
Straightening up, he wiped a bit of sweat from his brow, then turned to gaze out the window into the night sky. The starts sparkled beautifully, but the sight, which normally lifted the kind scientist’s spirits, only saddened Dr. Light. They reminded him somewhat of the sparkle in his creations’ eyes, something that was there of its own free will, that Dr. Light himself hadn’t put there. He once again sighed.
Suddenly his keen eyes caught sight of a strange thing in the sky. It was too bright to be a star and was moving wrong to be a plane, comet, or meteor. Curious, Dr. Light went over to the window to get a better look. He soon realized that it was a flying craft, one that in style was obviously one of Wily’s.
“Now what?” he muttered, seeing it definitely heading towards the lab. He headed through the lab and the adjoining house to investigate as the craft landed on the sidewalk outside.
Was Dr. Light surprised when he opened the front door and saw, instead of Wily, his own Rock and Roll hopping out. He nearly didn’t believe his eyes.
“Dr. Light!” Roll cried.
“Father!” Rock added. They ran towards him. Dr. Light met them half-way and embraced them both. They returned the hug, glad to be home.
“Rock! Roll! Are you okay? Where did Dr. Wily take you? How did you escape?” He didn’t wait for answers, just hugged them again and escorted them inside. “Tell me in the lab.” Dr. Light kept one arm around each one’s waist, and they in turn kept one arm around his shoulders.
Once in the lab, Dr. Light did a systems check on both, and , finding their systems clear, had them tell everything. Rock told the entire tale, then something inside caused him to ask,
“Are you mad at me? I had to tell a fib to get away.” He knew from his programming that Dr. Light preferred truth over falsehood.
“Well, not this time Rock,” Dr. Light assured. “You saved you and your sister’s life! It was your human emotions that allowed you to make that escape.” He walked from where he’d been standing between them to the center area of the lab as he continued, “But, there is still a grave problem. Dr. Wily and Protoman will be back, and there’s only one way to stop them.” Rock and Roll looked at each other, concerned expressions on their faces, then back at Dr. Light.
“What is it, father?” Rock asked.
“I’m going to have to rebuild you,” He stopped and turned back, addressing Rock. “into a great robot warrior.” He returned to stand in front of them. “And with your mixture of conscience, compassion, and self-determination, you’ll always have an edge over other robots.”
“Imagine,” Roll commented in wonder. “My brother, a super warrior.” Rock could only smile at her.
And so Dr. Light rebuilt his first robot, his son, giving him new armor in two-tone blue shades and adapting a plasma cannon onto his left arm. In his he also put the ability to duplicate other robot’s weapons. Lastly he fit a blue helmet over Rock’s brown hair.
At last, after hours of work, Dr. Light and Roll stood before the new and improved Rock.
“He’s beautiful!” Roll exclaimed.
“He’s the greatest creation of my career, and I will call him--Mega Man!” With a whir, Mega Man was reactivated.
“Mega Man!” he echoed, then came forward. “I like it.”
“But you’re also my son Rock,” Dr. Light said, briefly placing his hands on Mega Man’s shoulders before turning away. “And I’ve got an added surprise for you.” He went to the wall and opened a small compartment. Inside was a red robot dog. “This is Rush. He’s going to be your canine companion, and transportation.” Dr. Light activated the dog.
“Ruff, ruff, Mega!” Rush barked, blending speech and barking. “ Ruff, ruff!” He leapt at Mega, who managed to catch the robo-dog but was knocked over. He laughed at Rush licked his face.
“Hey! C’mon! Stop with the lickin!” he laughed. Rush obeyed, tail wagging. “Lets see what you can do.” Mega sat up a little more as Rush got off and leapt into the air.
“As you can see, he’s got an unlimited number of vehicles he can transform into,” Dr. Light explained as Rush turned into a jet board, a jet ski, a hang glider, then back into his dog form. He landed at the now-standing Mega Man’s feet.
“Yeah,” Mega agreed, kneeling down to pet his new pet’s head. “He’s one hunk of hardware. Hey, good boy.”
“I just feed him these battery biscuits for energy.” Dr. Light pulled a dog biscuit out of his coat pocket and threw it to Rush. The canine bounced around, caught it in his mouth, and gulped it down. Mega once again petted Rush’s head as Rush wagged his tail and gave Mega a fond look.
“Hey, the two of us are going to make a great team.”
“Uh uh,” Roll corrected her brother. He looked at her. “The three of us.”
“Hold on,” Mega said to Rush. “My robot transistors sense something coming.” He stood as Roll explained.
“While Dr. Light was working on you, Mega Man, I did some work on myself.” She switched her left hand to a vacuum and aimed it at Rush. The robo-dog was able to pull back for a few moments before his nose got sucked it with a yelp from him. “Oops! I guess I still need a few adjustments.” She pulled back on her arm and tugged the vacuum off of Rush’s nose. Rush gave his nose a rub, then looked up, startled, as Roll finished, “But now I can help you when you go into battle, Mega Man.” Mega wasn’t so sure.
“Hey, no way, forget it.” He held up both hands in protest. “You’re out of your gourd, sis.”
“We’ll make a great team,” she coaxed. “Just me, Rush, and Mega Man...”
