Author's Note: This is a novelization of the 'first' Mega Man cartoon show. I say 'first' because I'm not sure if it was in actuality the first one aired, but in my mind, choronologically, it should be first. Also, I tried to be true to the story, so yes, it is a bit corny. I do not own Mega Man, in any form, this is just a showing of my fanship, nor am I making anything from this but hopefully some people happy. Lastly, should I see that it is enjoyed, I might consider novelizing the rest of the episodes. Enjoy!
Episode 1:
THE BEGINNING
It started out like any other day in New York City. People were riding the monorails to work, going about their usual business. At Kennedy International Airport citizens were boarding planes while announcements of the flights came over loudspeakers and robotic attendants loaded luggage.
Suddenly there was an explosion. When the smoke cleared there stood a menacing group of figures.
“It’s Wily's robots!” one man yelled. Indeed it was: Guts Man, Bomb Man, Elec Man, Cut Man, and Fire Man.
Guts Man, by far the biggest, stepped forward as people scattered to hide and two robot police ran forwards to try and fend off the attackers.
Elec Man charged up his Thunder Beam attack. Frightened cries from the people could be heard as he extended his arms, first over his head, then outward, and fired a blast of electricity. It struck the robo-cops and sent them to the ground. Guts Man, continuing the relentless assault, charged forward and used his massive strength to punch straight through the wall of the airport terminal. Fire Man turned up the heat with his Fire Storm attack and blasted a section of glass with a jet of flames. Those inside scattered and cried out in fear as a hole was melted through and his attack roared inside. Cut Man ran head-first, the blades on his rounded head slicing right through the metal beam and glass of another section of window. Part of the building crumbled and fell, its support gone.
Not to be left out, Bomb Man hefted a bomb in his right hand, the fuse glowing, and hurled it at a wall. The bomb exploded upon contact, and Cut Man, Bomb Man, Elec Man, and Fire Man charged through their custom-made door. Above them the evil Dr. Wily soared in his flying machine, the Skullkur. Protoman as always was at his side.
“Take the airport, my robots!” he ordered in his German accent as they soared after the others. “Let nothing stand in your vay!” The four below ran towards the nearest plane. Sensing a triumph, Wily gloated to the red robot at his side, “My plan is going perfectly, Protoman. Once the airport is mine, I’ll control the city.” He laughed wildly. Proto smiled wickedly, the sunlight reflecting off of the black visor set in his helmet, as he watched the mayhem below.
Cut Man leapt at the wings of the plane, cutting through them with the blades on his head. The wing, severed, fell to the runway as he did the same to the following two planes.
One of the airport emergency vehicles, sirens blaring and lights flashing, sped to the defense, but was intercepted by Fire Man. One shot of Fire Storm was all it took to melt the runway and stop the vehicle in its tracks. Two police cars, following close behind, swerved around the trapped vehicle and raced forward. Fire Man landed form his leaping attack. Bomb Man joined him and sent two bombs flying through the air at the approaching cars. The resulting crater was too much for the cars, which were unable to stop in time and fell in, their momentum causing them to collide with the far side.
“They called me crazy--hehe--insane--mad! hahahahaha!” Wily commented as he came to a stop above the disabled cars. “Well,” he finished smugly, “I’ll show dem.”
One of the airport workers raced across the runway to a waiting helicopter. Clutching a clipboard in hand, he climbed in and the pilot tried to take off. Unfortunately, Cut Man had something to say about that, or rather his Rolling Cutter attack did. He reached up and removed the blades from his head, hurling them through the air discus-style, just as the helicopter began to take off. Those inside watched in horror as the blades cleanly sheared through the top blades of the machine, which crashed to the ground. Feeling panicked, the pilot, Captain Lee, grabbed the radio in a last desperate call for help.
“This is Captain Lee. Kennedy International Airport is under attack my Dr. Wily’s robots. We need help immediately--”
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
On the far outskirts of the town the call for help reached its destination: a home-lab combo, the home of the brilliant scientist Dr. Light and his two robot creations and robo-dog. The four stood facing a large screen as the call came through.
“Calling Mega Man, we’re calling Mega Man. Please help us!”
“Looks like Dr. Wily and his slime buckets are at it again,” Mega Man, the blue fighting robot, commented to his creator, his sister Roll, and robo-canine companion Rush, as scenes flickered on the screen: the destruction to the airport, the Skullkur, and Dr. Wily himself. Rush growled.
“Yes,” Dr. Light said, a touch of sadness in his voice. “And to think we used to work together. He must be stopped, Mega Man.”
“Right!” he agreed, raising a fist, and a determined look on his face. “I’m outta here.”
“Yeah. We’re outta here,” Roll added, moving to go past her brother. But Mega quickly got in front of her and held up his hands, stopping her.
“Whoa. Where are you going?”
“With you.”
“Not a chance, fancy pants,” Mega objected, a finger raised in protest which turned to a hand palm out to wave her off her idea. “I don’t need a girl robot getting in my way.”
“You mean you don’t want a girl robot showing you up,” Roll countered, shaking her own finger at him. Mega held up both hands.
“Forget it, Roll. It’s too dangerous.” Satisfied that he’s made his point, he whistled to Rush. “C’mon, Rush. Into action.” Rush looked happily at his master, tail wagging, and barked.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ruff, ruff.” As usual he blended speech and barking together. He leapt into the air and transformed into his jet board mode, Mega’s main form of transportation. He landed, and Mega hopped on.
A door nearby opened, and in ran Eddie, the flip-top little green robot who carried energy cans for Mega Man.
“Hey, don’t forget your energy cans, Mega Man,” he reminded as he ran forwards. He stopped and his top flipped open, ejecting a can of liquid energy to power Mega’s blaster and sometimes his systems.
“Thanks, Eddie,” Mega said quickly, gulping the greenish-glowing liquid. Then, tossing the can aside, he said to Rush, “Okay. Lets jet outta here!” Rush fired up his jets and they took off, flying up through a retractable opening in the roof. Dr. Light called after him as he looked at the screen,
“Hurry, Mega. Dr. Wily’s robots are talking over the control tower.”
“Mega Man’s gonna need my help whether he needs it or not,” Roll said to Doc, a little robot similar to Eddie but yellow in color with a red plus sign on his helmet, which was shaped more like a construction helmet that Eddie’s. He nodded. She added, irritated, “Men are all the same--even the robot ones.” The two ran to the mini air raider, a two-seater flying machine. Roll activated the machine, adding, “Hold on, Doc. We’re going full throttle!” They made a small turn and raced through a tunnel that exited in another retractable opening, this one of the side of the lab. They sped off towards the city.
