Author's Note: I do believe I commented in another fic that I like 'fixing' certain things in my stories. Hehehehe.
Chapter 7: A Christmas Gift
CREAK….
Proto Man slowly opened one eye. It was late at night. He had gone to bed early, nearly right after listening to a few stories, which had lasted until about ten thirty. Even though he lay with his back to the door, the faint silhouette cast on the wall he faced told clearly who stood there: Mega.
The elder bro-bot kept his breathing slow and steady, wondering what was on the younger bot’s mind and whether he should respond, asking what was wrong. He decided to. Before Mega could close the door, Proto rolled over and sat up, squinting slightly as his eyes adjusted to the light.
“Somethin’ wrong, Mega?”
“Did I wake you?”
“Nah. I sleep light. What’s up?” He nodded towards the opposite end of the bed, indicating that Mega should sit down, which he did.
“I just couldn’t sleep.”
“Eager for Christmas?” The mischievous grin Proto flashed his way made Mega grin.
“You know, that’s the first real grin I’ve seen from you.”
“Eh, these new emotions bring out new actions. As well as a touch of intuition. Now tell me what’s wrong.” Mega sighed, giving in.
“All right. I did doze off for a while, but I had dreams. Bad ones. About you.” Proto, comprehending almost before Mega had finished speaking, nodded.
“About me staying on Wily’s side right?” A nod was the answer. “Well, I was gonna wait to tell anyone - it was gonna be a Christmas surprise - but I’ll tell you early.” He paused, looking directly eye to eye with his brother to make sure he fully understood. “I’m not planning on going back. Ever.”
“You - you’re not?”
“No.” Overjoyed to hear that, that Proto was at least not going to remain on the bad side, Mega gave him a brotherly hug, which was returned. Proto couldn’t help but chuckle. “Merry Christmas, Mega.”
“Thanks, Proto. Thanks.” Neither was aware of the little lion cub peering into the room, grinning.
