“Ooohhh... My aching head...”
Slowly Sunstreaker pulled himself up to his hands and knees. He had no idea where he was or what had hit him while he and his brother were on patrol. His blurry optics, still trying to adjust to the disorientation, caught sight of a fuzz of red to his right, about nine feet away.
“Sides... you okay?” The red blur moved as his vision fully cleared, revealing a smaller person in red and white.
“Who ya talkin' to?” the person answered in a tone that had a touch of sarcasm in it, even though he'd asked a question. As he looked over, the yellow Autobot saw a black visor completely hiding his eyes from view, though what else he could see of his face looked human. A groan from the other side made both look over. The person over there, slowly getting up, seemed to be a cat person in orange Medieval garb, tunic and pants and such, with a sword on his left hip. Beyond him was a human in red robes.
“Sunny?” The red mech's voice came from what was in front of Sunstreaker, in the direction he'd awoken laying in. Looking, he saw his twin across from him, seemingly just having stood. Beside him were others: A human in odd blue armor across from the red and white guy, another cat in purple robes across from the first cat, and a large (for his species) human across from the red robed one, in what the Autobot faintly thought they'd called a breastplate with a sword of his own on his hip. Each one looked disorientated and confused.
“Where are we?” asked the blue guy.
“Raist?” the human in armor called out to the red robed one, moving to go to his side. “You ok – OOF!” His query was cut off short with a grunt as he hit something very invisible and very solid, hard enough that he nearly was bounced off his feet.
“What tha - “ The cat in purple went to assist him,and discovered he was blocked by a wall that way too. Indeed, each one was blocked by a wall between those they were beside, and separated by about six feet from those across from them. Sideswipe tried to ram his way through to his brother, and bounced himself.
“Frag! These things are tough!” he winced. The blue armored guy withdrew his hand into his arm – was he some kind of robot? - and fired a yellow-white energy blast at the wall.
“Now even a singe mark!” The red robe,”Raist,” took his turn, pointing at the field and speaking in an odd language, causing bolts of fire to spring from his fingertips and blast at the wall. Again, nothing.
“Ah,” came an unfamiliar male voice from all around. “I see everyone's awake. Good.”
“Who the hell are you?” the red and white guy asked.
“I am, quite obviously, the one who brought you here, and who will, in time, send you back again.”
“We are your prisoners, then?” asked Raist.
“Not prisoners, as much as... participants in a study I've been conducting. And, if all of you are half as good as my research shows at your chosen 'professions,' there is no chance any harm will come to you. Now, perhaps some introductions, as you are all going to be working together.” A soft light lit up under the red and white, and the blue, making them jump a bit in surprise before they realized nothing was happening.”Mega Man and Proto Man, of Earth Variant 37.” The light passed over to the Transformers. “Sunstreaker and Sideswipe, of Earth Variant 42.” Then to the two felines. “Zantar and Zentarou til'Cat, of Talsdia.” Lastly to the two humans. “And Caramon and Raistlin Majere, of Krynn. Now, as I'm quite positive you'd all like to go home as soon as possible, lets begin.” Behind Proto, Sunstreaker, Zantar, and Raistlin doors not previously visible opened. “If you will, gentlemen, through those doors, please.”
“Not without me, he's not!” Mega shouted.
“Me too!” Zentarou agreed.
“I'm not leaving Sideswipe!” Sunstreaker growled. Neither Caramon nor Raistlin said anything, but their expressions were equally firm and grim. The Voice sighed.
“Please, do not. Your brothers will be returned safely, unless of course as I said they are not as good at what they do as you claim.” For a long moment, no one moved. Then, in a swirl of crimson fabric, Raistlin turned and strode towards the door.
“Raist!”
“Caramon,” he said as he paused, speaking over his shoulder, “I doubt our unseen – host - wishes us harm, or he would have already done so already, while we were unconscious. And unless you doubt my ability at magic - “ The big man flinched, as if he'd been hit, verbally at least.
“No, no I didn't mean that. You know I think you're a wonderful wizard. I just worry, that's all. This isn't like at the Baron's keep. I have no idea where this... this Voice is asking you to go.”
“I know you worry, my dear brother, I know. But he's- “ Here Raistlin nodded up. “ - is correct: the sooner we get this over with, the sooner we go home.” And saying nothing more, he went through the door. The Voice spoke again.
“Ah, the young man is a true wizard: reasoning through any situation. He'll do well, I think.”
Proto gave himself a small nod, smiled at Mega and gave him a thumbs up, and headed through his own door.
“I think I've got no choice, Sides.”
“You just be careful Sunny.”
“Always.” And Sunstreaker followed suit. Zantar headed towards the door, but the Voice stopped him.
“Zantar- “ The cat paused, as a metal circlet appeared in the air before him, and one before his brother. “I know about your little 'gift' and I am afraid I cannot allow it to contaminate the results. Please put the circlets on.” Both cats' ears went back, but they obeyed. Both staggered for a moment, and the one in purple put his hand over his heart, but then they recovered, and Zantar went through the block doorway.
Behind, all four door closed simultaneously, leaving the other four to wait and wonder, and pray they saw their brothers again alive.
