Chapter 57: Farewell... For Now, Not Forever

At about mid-afternoon, the Bretheren Arcanum, Vivi Orunitia, Zentarou Cat, Orko the Great, and Dregan Za'Tayina gathered in the front yard of the Syndisian Sword.

It was time to say goodbye.

"Well, I guess this is farewell," Zentarou said shakily.

"For now, not forever," Dregan replied. "After what we've been through together, it would be a shame to lose contact completely."

"Yeah," agreed Vivi. "And we do have the cubes, don't forget."

"Perhaps we could arrange to meet again in a set time," suggested the cat. "Say, in a year, at Kylado? I could signal for you, with my cube, and you show up a day after as we're all there at the same time."

"Sounds good to me," Orko said.

"You could bring your families as well."

"Very well. One year." Dregan was a bit misty eyed, but so were all of them. "Farewell, and Tavannes watch you, Brothers of Magic." Orko wiped his eyes a bit with his sleeve.

"Farewell brothers... Trolly-molly sniff..."

"The Lioness of the Field and Forest guard your steps, Bretheren."

"We'll meet again next year." In unison the three mages double clicked their respective sides, and returned home.

In Gaia, Talsdia, Eternia, and Sindaya, the Bretheren Arcanum finally fettled home to stay, with their families and friends. The threat of the demon army, of their unknown enemy, was a shadow in their minds, but for now at least they were able to push it aside... in part... and enjoy the simple pleasure of having at last returned home after a time of darkness.

Elsewhere...

"Dank them! Dank them to the Abyss!" The figure, looking into a mirror that showed all four mages, happy and home with their families, flung a goblet of wine across the onyx chamber he was in.

"If our plan succeeds," replied the hulking demon next to him, a huge beast with bat wings, large horns, and sharp claws wearing a loincloth of an unknown material, "then you will get your wish, Master." The figure settled back into the chair behind him.

"I underestimated them, and their friends. They were more powerful than we believed."

"Especially the gray elf's friends. They hurt our army greatly. It will take some time to replenish our number."

"Let it," the figure sneered. "Let it take time. Let them forget, believe they're safe. Then when they least expect it, we will strike at their very hearts and souls, and I will hear them beg for mercy from me!" Both laughed evilly. "After all, we can afford to be patient.

"We have all the time in the worlds..."

A/N: Ahh... done at last! But don't think this is the last of the Bretheren! I have two other stories already completed and awaiting typing, and a fourth in progress.

Their enemy is still active, and has plans for the Bretheren. How far will he go to destroy them, and will his plans succeed?
