ISRAEL
1999
Jaffa Gate
We came to Israel early in the morning, and it took about 1.5 hours before everybody were cleared through the security control and we could enter the buses to take us to Jerusalem.

On board the bus the guide gave us information about Israel and the sites we were to see on the tour -
Jerusalem and Bethlehem - and some important information about the country and its people and their culture.

The bus drivers set us off outside the
Jaffa Gate, and from there we followed the guide, rushing through the old city with its bazars to Golgata.

After 10 minutes information from the guide, we were allowed approx. 10 more minutes to walk around by ourselves before moving on. The place were so crowded that we were more busy watching for the guide than relaxing and looking around.
In front of the Wailing Wall

From Golgata we went to the
Wailing Wall, the most sacred place to the Jews, in front of which there was another security control. From the square next to the Wall, we could also see part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Christ's Birthplace
After Jerusalem the buses took us to Bethlehem to see the Church of Nativity, which is said to have been built over the birthplace of Jesus Christ. Today the church is divided between the Greek Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Armenian Orthodox faiths.
At the end of the tour we were taken to what must be the most expensive souvenir shop in the Middle East, before we had to go back to the ship.

We arrived at the ship around 6 PM, in time to redress before going to dinner. Thereafter the ship set course for Port Said in
Egypt. Though we the country's  is fascinating, this, in our opinion, is not the way to see it. There is so much to see that one should spend far more time than we did, should one have time to see all of it.
