Cannibal
Corpse - Gallery Of Suicide 1998 (Usa)
Rating:
90
This is one of the best Cannibal Corpse released and the sound is completaly
different from the elder and they also got an new singer since "Tomb Of The
Mutilated". The opening track, "I Will Kill You", is an extremely powerfull and
extreme song and the mid section got an cool riff. "Chamber Of Blood" is an good
song with an incredible groovy mid section which is just awesome and it is a
little "softer" (if you can say that about Death Metal) than the usualy Cannibal
songs. The singer also uses a more high pitched voice some places in the song.
One of the other highlights are "Disposal of the Body" and "Every Bone Broken".
This record also includes a few instrumental songs but those aint too much to
brag about in my opinion, but all in all most Death Metal fans would enjoy this
one.
Caravan -
In The Land Of Grey And Pink 1971 (Eng)
Rating:
95
Caravan is one of the most known "Canterbury" bands along with Camel. "Golf
Girl" (originaly namned "Group Girl") is an good opener for this record. With
trumpets and catchy melodies. "Winter Wine" is one of the best songs. It starts
mellow with accoustic guitars and vocal harmonies. It continues in the same vein
with organs and of course the rest of the band. "Love To Love You (And Tonight
Pigs Will Fly" is a more popish song but still a good song. The title track is
more in the same vein as "Winter Wine" but maybe a little less mellow. The best
song is the one-side-length "Nine Feet Underground" which last for 22 minutes.
It starts instrumental with alot of great playing from each member of the band.
Everything from a trumpet solo to a guitar solo fills the beginning. About 5-6
minutes in the song the singing starts and it becomes a very catchy tune. 9
minutes out in the songs it has a great instrumental part. This song has
everything from laidback instrumental parts to more energic verses. A must buy.
Carpathian
Forest - Strange Old Brew 2000 (Nor)
Rating:
90
Carpathian Forest is one of the Norwegian cult Black metal bands from the early
90's who still play old-school Black metal. Actually most of the songs are made
in 1991-1994 while just a couple are made in 1996 and later. This is the duo's
second full-lenght release and it's highly recomend able for fans of Mayhem,
Darkthrone and Burzum. The session drummer is the well known Tchort. "He's
Turning Blue" is an cool almost punkish Black Metal song and it's rater new
(1997). "Return Of The Freezing Winds" (1991) are grim Black Metal at its best
and you could only imagine how big Carpathian Forest could have becomed if this
CD was released in 1991 not in 2000. They are also an good live act, every one
who saw them on the Mayhem tour know that.
Carpe
Tenebrum - Mirror Hate Painting 2000 (Nor)
Rating:
20
This is the first solo release form "Sell-Out" Astennu (ex-Dimmu Borgir). He
actually says that he likes "Spiritual Black Dimensions" better than his own
release, so whats the point releasing (or buying for that matter) this record?
Take out the good parts of "SBD" and you are left with this record. Nagash/Lex
Icon ((c)Kovenant/ex-Dimmu Borgir/Troll) sings and his voice is the only
"highlight" as he got a great Black Metal voice, it's a pitty that his talent is
put at the side and only get a "guest" role in Carpe Tenebrum. DO NOT BUY!
Cruachan
- The Middle Kingdom 2000 (Irland)<
Rating:
85
A magical journy trough irish folk music and heavy metal. This is nothing but an
awesome release! It all starts up whit irish bag pipes (A celtic Mourning), and
then it turns heavy as hell in Celtica. Song 2-7 is sung by a female vocalist
and she has a good voice that fits the music. Song 8 and 9 is sung by their
guitar player who has a terrible voice, but luckly - he only sings on two songs.
The bonus song is sung by John Munnelly (Guest Musician), and he has a way
better voice than the guitar player. Heavy guitars, flutes, female vocals and
very much of irish folk music (Some stuff get me to think about BraveHeart, he
he...). Cool cover and the digi pack contains all the lyrics and song
definitions. This record may be hard to get, so I strongly recomend you buy this
album now! Order it from www.hammerheart.com
