This is an annual fund raiser for the American Diabetes Association. Over 1,000 riders participated in the the event - a 54 mile bike over Mt Hood. The ride begins in Welches, Oregon which is located on Highway 26 at the base of Mt. Hood. Riders ascend a total of 4,475’ over the course of the ride, including riding over Government Camp and two historic passes – Barlow and Bennett.

On a long downhill stretch from the summit we stopped for a photo-op. Luckily this also coincided with the 15 minutes of sunshine that came in the otherwise cold & wet 5 hour trek. It was also that this stop that I brought my bike to a complete stop while forgetting to remove my feet from the clip- less pedals - gravity took over and I hit the ground.
After the ride we limped quickly to the beer line. Unfortunately Michael Malloy, pictured below at his office, was busy work and could not join us on the ride.
According to instructions from his wife, I made sure Matthew dank plenty of water.
