This was the only one of my favourite hobbies that I succeeded in turning into my career. (So far, at least.)I started off young, in this regard. There was never a working radio in my house till I was 10 years old. The obvious cause, was of course, me. Me and my nagging desire to just open the casing of the radio, just to see the parts inside, even if nothing made sense to me. My father didn't help at all. He actually kept the screwdriver just where I could reach it. Temptation beckoned, and I yielded. Later on he got me this fantastic set of books Basic Radio (by Marvin Tepper), which is where everything started off from.. I really recommend this book to anyone needing any info on anything to do with electronics. Now, I've now got my degree in Electronics and Telecommunications. My project involved a location tracking system for GSM mobile phones and I still search for a screw-driver whenever I see a new radio. I believe the future of all communications is in the wireless field. Most probably, only corporate offices and the like, will still be connected by wires. The rest of all will all be connected through wireless. Don't believe me? Take a look at Finland, where, I am sure, very soon, when a child is born, they will allot it a mobile phone number, even before it is named!!
This is my all-time favourite phone, the Sony CMD - Z5. Why. Try it. When you get addicted to the jog-dial and the dual-aspect display, you'll know.
In the meantime, our future will continue to be in the able hands of the babus of the DoT (Govt. of India - Department of Telecommunications) Here's to the future! And to whatever it holds!
