Like so many others

Like so many others, he wakes up in bed,
rubs at his eyes, blears at the day,
bristles his chin, hopes for the sun,
and rolls out into his life.

Like so many others, he looks at the clock,
thinks of the time (and how it flies!),
checks his agenda, fills in a date,
and runs on to catch his bus.

Like so many others, he watches TV,
frowns away sadness, blinks away death,
laughs at the Simpsons, shrugs at the Ads,
and sips at another beer.

Like so many others, he thinks about life,
ponders the future, saves up his sense,
counts up the days till his days are done,
and feels he is all alone.
