When you are old

Based on "When you are old" by W.B. Yeats

When you are old and tired and full of woe,
Look at your life and ask yourself but once
Why it was you participated in their dance
And why your years consisted of heel-and-toe.

Then wonder at your attempts so vain
To fit in with life's silliness and chatter
With beg-and-curtsies, to admire and flatter,
Rewarded only by lonely pain.

And bending down beside the glowing shards,
Of a life devoid of joy and simple pleasures
Having striven only for transparent treasures,
Look far back at the rhymes of lonely bards.
