Her Superman

Her Superman I was at first;
she stood in awe of all I said:
"How could such thoughts live in one head?"
But all at once the bubble burst.

I'd been the best, but now the worst;
I was a hopeless case in bed:
she looked upon the night with dread.
Her Superman I was at first!

Upon my water she'd throw bread;
she'd end my hunger and my thirst:
when I was sick, she stayed and nursed.
She stood in awe of all I said.

Now here she stands, her eyes are red;
her brow is frowned; her lips are pursed:
she wants her high hopes reimbursed!
How could such thoughts live in her head?

In all I said she'd been immersed;
but now my words are made of lead;
she'd rather talk to slugs instead,
for all at once the bubble burst.

"She stood in awe of all I said,"
how could such thoughts live in my head?
Her Superman I was at first,
but all at once the bubble burst.
