She's Just Another Tourist

Here, at the buffet weighed down with the best
the wardens of of the Kruger Park provide,
a pretty Zulu maiden stirs the fried
crocodile and spoons up monkey breast.
We're sweaty tourists waiting to consume
the lives we've spent a holiday to view,
I'm somewhere near the middle of the queue
that snakes around the boiling dining room.
Ahead of me a white boy hands his plate
up to the maiden mincing through the meat,
he points at all the things he wants to eat
and frowns at her: Why does she hesitate?
While tiny levers strain to join the dots,
she recommends the yummy leopard spots.
