The Lonely Man

I want to meet you halfway

But, I can’t think of a thing to say.

I see you in the evening

I try to see what you are feeling

Your eyes,

steel blue,

won’t let me in.

I can’t pretend,

you’re gonna win.

So you can keep playing,

hard to get,

and, I’ll standby

waiting, set.

Sometimes you look so sad to me

I want to tell you,

make you see

that I can help

make the pain go away

for a while

then maybe, later on,

you’ll think of me

and smile.

And you’ll remember

when I’m gone

that while I was here,

and in the end,

you weren’t alone,

you found a friend.
