RIDES:
GRUNDY, VA
One fine day our group decided to ride to Grundy
Va. Well, actually were were going to ride to Wise, Va. and spend the night. Due
to a late start and some unforeseen scooter problems which caused a side trip to
Bluefield, West Virginia, we wound up in Grundy. Grundy is located in Buchanan
County Va. In the middle of coal country. The town of Grundy is slated to be
moved by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers due to it's tendency to flood.
It's located right on a small river in the bottom of what's called a holler.
When it rains a lot the small river turns into a large angry river.
Even though Grundy wasn't where we had planned to
be on this particular evening, it's where we found ourselves. So, we found a
hotel, a nice new one that had only been open a few weeks, and we found a place
to eat and wound up having a good time and a good ride.
Here's some shots of the Grundy ride.

Think you can't find happiness in a median strip?
Lisa did! After a ride over how many mountains between Bluefield and Grundy?
We went the long way, up US 52 and back down Routes 16 and 83.

The girls, who have been passengers are wanting to try out the bikes for
themselves.

A good portion of a mountain was moved to make way
for the hotel and parking lot.

On our way back home the next day we took some back roads into some hollers.
We stopped at an old abandoned mine.
