WALLACE TOWN HISTORY |
|||||||||||||||
 On the upriver West Bank side of St. John the Baptist Parish is the community of Wallace, on the edge of the German and Acadian Coasts. Local plantations included Evergreen, Whitney, Johnson, Caroll, and Stevenson, providing an idyllic lifestyle for the planters but decades of work for the slaves and white field hands. Johnson Plantation is the place of birth of Whitney Klibert son of Etienne Klibert, who was a field hand on Johnson Plantation. He had left his family which resided in South Vacherie. He later moved to Diamond Plantation (present Bonnet Carre Spillway) in St. Charles Parish. | |||||||||||||||
