Power of a Surrendered Life

Theme: Ps. 62: 7-11
Text: Romans 6:13, 22

INTRODUCTION:
"Power belongs to God," but there is one condition upon which that power is bestowed upon us. That condition is absolute SURRENDER to Him. The great secret of power is found in "Yield yourselves unto God". The word translated "yield", or "present" means to put at one's disposal.

We are to surrender completely and absolutely to God, for Him to do with us as He pleases and use us as He will. If we want to know and experience the power of God in our life and service we need surrender to Him.

Let us look at some of the things that comes from absolute surrender.

  1. Knowledge of Truth. (John 7:17; 8:32)
"If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine," "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
    • Knowledge of the truth comes with completely surrender of the will. Nothing clears the spiritual vision as surrender of the will to God. "God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all" (I John 1:5).
    • Nothing so blinds the spiritual vision as self-will or sin. Paul says in 1 Cor 2:14 , "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God" The text is dealing with knowing spiritual things and that we have been given that Spirit of God. But the "natural thinking man" is unable to receive the things of the Spirit. Self-will and thinking blinds us from truth and is the main reason for skepticism and erroneous teaching.
    • A surrendered life and will is the secret of light and knowledge.

  2. Power in Prayer. (I John 3:22)
"we receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.."
    • Note those wonderful words, "we receive from him anything we ask." Every prayer, great or small, will be answered. Why would we pray if we never expected an answer, but note the reason
    • "because we obey his commands, and do what pleases Him." A life wholly at God's disposal, this is the secret of prevailing prayer.
    • A surrendered life give us power in prayer.

  3. Christ Manifesting Himself to Us. (John 14: 21)
" Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."
    • A complete surrender of self to Christ allows Christ to be revealed in us.
    • A surrendered life and will, reveals the true essence of Christ to us as well as allow others to see Christ in us. The world is looking to see Christ in Christians. Our lives have become religious rather that reflective. It is only when we present or yield ourselves, put ourselves at God's disposal will Christ be manifested to us.
    • A surrendered life allows Christ to reveal Himself to us.

CONCLUSION:
Will you have the power that comes from a surrendered life? Will you "Yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and yield your members as instruments of righteousness unto God"? How utterly foolish it is not to surrender unto God. You are robbing yourself of all that makes life really worth living.

Will you yield, today?
