THE TRIGGERSTONE

THE STORY OF THE BOOK
I began this story after a dream in early 1987, at the Cedar Motel in Timaru while I was on the road as a puppeteer for the (then) Crippled Children's Society.  Four versions were written, the last getting some valuable last minute advice from Anna V on the ending, which I'm sure saved me a fifth run.  Even so it had been five and a half years from that first dream to having the book in my hand.  The longest 'gestation' of them all.
It was worth it, as the book not only got piles of great reviews, but was also short-listed in the AIM Book Awards in 1994.

The Triggerstone has certainly proved my 'best' book so far.

WHAT THE REVIEWERS SAID:

"This is a great book with an exciting blend of Maori legend and mystic with science fiction and the supernatural.  Very well written to appeal to the 10-13 age range with suspense, mystery, intrigue and a touch of teenage love.  - DAILY POST

"Jinnie come alive in all her fear, confusion and embarrassment.  Her friends' reactions are credible too.  Maybury neither exaggerates nor overwrites.  [An] excellent novel [that] deserves attention."  - DOROTHY BUTLER

"He is our country's leading writer in this field and in The Triggerstone he's at his best."  - WILLIAM TAYLOR
