THE STORY OF THE BOOK In 1982 I was creating scripts for children's stage-shows when the idea for T.T. 'arrived'. I knew at once that it had to be done as a TV series. By 1983 I had finished one episode. Encouraged by friends I showed it to a TV producer (Rex Simpson, now of Kids TV) and he took it on as a project, linking me to Scholastic at the same time. Soon after I had finished the first (hand-written) draft of the book and handed it over to be typed into a computer (a big deal in those days!) a draft copy was sent to the publisher. Annoyed that it wasn't letter quality they sent it back. Then the TV company went broke. In the panic all the drafts were lost (I'd kept no copy of my own), and the computer guy ran off with his computer and the discs. My book was lost! - Well I got all spiritual about it, decided this sort of worldly success was not in my destiny, and gave up on the whole venture. Three months later a 2nd draft quality printout turned up at the publishers and they, not having an address for my 'agents' (hah!), sent it back to me. Miracle! So Scholastic and I picked up the threads and the book came out in '86. To this day I do not
