June Ride Information

June 13th
Box Canyon - Rincon Rd, Wickenburg
Short Ride: About 2 to 2� hours � Rating 1 to 1�
Lunch:
No lunch, Snack only at turn around
Ride Time:
Staging at 7:45 Ride at 8:00

Description:
This is a Hassayampa River ride. The ride will be all in the Hassayampa River, this part of the river nearly always has water and the horses love it. The views are fantastic and this is one ride you don�t want to miss.  We will ride up the river for about 1 hour where we will take about a � hour break, have a snack or lunch and than return to the trailers.

Directions:
From the Phoenix area go toward Wickenburg on Hwy 60, cross the bridge in Wickenburg and go to N. Tegner St. (the main STOP LIGHT) turn right onto N. Tegner St. which becomes Hwy 89, continue to Rincon road about 1� to 2 miles, turn right and follow the road to the first river crossing, cross the river and continue on until you come to the second river crossing, again, cross the river and follow the road to where it turns to the right, you will see the parking area on your right.

June 26th, 27th, & 28th
Groom Creek Loop Trail / Prescott - Overnight Camp and Saturday Ride

Short/Long - Rating 2
Ride Schedule:
Friday - 2 hour ride    Staging at 2:45
                           Saturday - 3 to 4 hour ride    Staging at 9:45
                           Sunday � 2 hour ride    Staging at 7:45

Rider Lead:

Description:
This is an over night camp, but riders can drive up Saturday morning for the main ride that will start at 10:00 A.M. SHARP. We plan to ride about 3 to 4 hours with one rest stop where you can have a snack or lunch, however, we expect that the campers may want to have there lunch back at camp after the ride. This will be discussed before the ride. If you plan to camp you should call for reservations (1-928-443-8000) and if you tell them who you will be camping with they will try to get you a site near the others in the group, remember they honor "Golden Age Passport" cards.  
       
This is a beautiful area with several well marked trails. Some what hilly and the trails are nearly all in the forest.

Directions:
From Loop 101 and I-17 drive North on I-17 about 48 miles to Exit 262, Hwy 69, Turn left and cross I-17 then drive West about 34 miles toward Prescott. Take Hwy 89, turn left, south and drive about 1 mile (Hwy 89 is E Gurley Road in Prescott) to South Mt. Vernon Ave. / Senator Hwy, turn left, South. Drive about 6 miles to the Groom Creek Loop Trailhead Camp Grounds; turn right to enter the camp grounds.

July Ride Information

July 11th
Pump Station - Hassayampa River


Short Ride: About 2 or 2� hours, Rating 1 to 1�
Lunch: No Lunch 
Ride Time: Staging at 5:45, Ride at 6:00 Sharp
Ride Leader: Ben Davidson or his Appointee

Description: This ride is in the Hassayampa River, there will not be any water in the river this time of the year. We will also ride on some two track trails along the edge of the CAP Canal.
 
Directions: Driving West on Bell Road which will become Sun Valley Parkway 2 miles past Cotton Lane.  Continue West to 291st Avenue (between Mile Marker 120 & 121).  This is a small dirt road but has a hand painted sign �291st Ave.,  turn right (West) (note Sun Valley Parkway curves south so you will be turning West)follow the road until you cross the canal bridge (about 1 mile), turn left and follow along the canal to the parking area (about 1 mile).  If you are coming from I-10 there is not a cross over at the road so go past MM 121 make a U-turn at the next cross over and return to 291st Ave. And turn right (West)

July 24th, 25th & 26th
Apache Maid Mountain Over Night Camp and Saturday Ride


Short/Long:

                      Sunday � 2 hour ride   Staging at 7:45

Description
:  This is a weekend camp on BLM land at Mulligan Tank. There are no facilities, no camp sites, no restrooms, no drinking water, and no trash containers just open land under the stars.  We will be packing in everything we need.  The air is crystal clear and sweet smelling, no dust.  On our last trip we camped among the cows near one or the watering holes.  The scenery is unbelievable.  If you like to rough camp this is the ride for you.  We plan to ride as much as possible all weekend long.  Saturday we will have a ride at 10: 00 so members wishing to make it a day ride can drive up Saturday morning.  If you drive up Saturday we suggest you leave by 6:00 A.M.

Directions
: From Phoenix take I-17 North to Stoneman Lake Road, Exit 306, turn East (right) follow Stoneman Lake Road until the road turns to dirt then follow the GEC Signs to the camp.

August Ride Information

August 8th
White Tank Mountains Regional Park


Short Ride:
About 2 to 2 � hours � Rating 1 � to 2
Lunch: No Lunch
Ride Time: Staging at 5:45, Ride 6:00 Sharp
Ride Leader: Ben Davidson or his Appointee

Description:  This ride will be inside the White Tanks Mountains Regional Park and there is a $6.00 entrance fee. This ride will is see Desert, Washes, and Small Mountains.  We will be parking at the Horse Staging Area for this ride not the competitive track area.

Directions: From the West side take Loop 101 South bound toward I-10, take Olive Avenue West (Turn Right) drive about 14 miles to the Park entrance at the end of Olive Avenue.

August 20th, 21st &22nd
Little Elden Springs Horse Camp, Flagstaff  Ride and Campout.

Ride Times: Friday � 2 hour ride,  Staging 3:45
                       Saturday � 3 to 4 hour ride,  Staging 9:45 
                       Sunday � 2 hour ride, Staging 7:45

Directions: From Phoenix take I-17 North toward Flagstaff to Exit 340, (I-17 ends and I-40 goes East and West). Go East (Right) on I-40 about 6 miles to the "EAST FLAGSTAFF INTERCHANGE" Exit 201. Turn Left (North) toward Page and go about 1/2 of a mile to Hwy 89 turn Right (North) (that's right the roads do not run a true North direction but close enough, trust me).  Drive North on Hwy 89 about 6 miles to Forest Road 556 (also marked as Elden Springs Road) turn left (West).  The "LITTLE ELDEN SPRING HORSE CAMP" is about 1 1/2 miles.
