Welcome to my Beautiful Phish Page.
If you could see my computer desktop, you'd understand
just how much I dig the PHISH.
I've decided to create an easy to understand page about the phenomena that is Phish in order to provide you with all the information you could ever want to know about Phish and then some. I've given you the basics here, because I don't want to overwhelm anyone. I am by no way a total authority on Phish and I have relied on many others in order to provide you with the most comprehensive information possible.
In the Beginnning...there was Gamehendge
The first thing you must understand and the one thing which all other Phish is based on is the story of Gamehendge. Gamehendge is the mystical land in which Trey's senior study project at Goddard College takes place. The actual project is entitled "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday" (TMWSIY) and although its exact where abouts are rather varied, it remains a key ground stone to much of Phish's work. Nine songs are pretty much agreed upon as the original pieces in TMWSIY project, however, at least nine other Phish songs make reference to the project, Gamehendge, or the Helping Friendly Book.
Now there are two way to hear the story: either listen to the lyrics of the original nine songs or read the basic text or a combination of the two (I guess then there are three options.) The basics of the story is this: Colonel Forbin and his dog, McGrupp find a door which leads them to Gamehendge where they find the very peaceful and simple people, the Lizards, enslaved by the evil Wilson. Apparently, Wilson arrived in Gamehendge, hung out with the Lizards and learned all there secrets which he then used to enslave them. He also stole the Friendly Helping Book from the Lizards, which he kept locked in a tower. The HFB contain all the secrets and knowledge of the Lizards and it is only with the help of the HFB that they have any chance of freeing themselves from Wilson. So, Forbin decides to save the Lizards, and with the help of Icculus (the believed author of the HFB) he is able to do just that and frees the Lizards and returns to them the HFB. Now all good stories have a moral and so does this one. As in Animal Farm, TMWSIY demonstrates that the knowledge which seem pure, innocent, and good will eventually fall into the hands of evil and their uprise will eventually fail, so enjoy it while you've got it.
The nine original songs are: "Lizards", "Tela", "Wilson", "AC/DC Bag", "Colonel Forbin's Ascent", "Famous Mockingbird", "Sloth", and "Possum". (Some include the "Wilson Prelude" as the ninth song others don't. If they do its the first song, right before "Lizards." I also wanted to show you that I can count !)
The other eight songs consist of:
"Divided Sky", "Llama", "McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters", "Punch
You In the Eye" "Axilla" and "Axilla II", "Icculus", and "Harpua"
