RE: CHARLES, JOHN AND HECTOR McLEAN formerley of Tyree, Argyleshire Hector McLean: (Nephew of Charles and John) Born: 1854 Died: July 8, 1943 in Little Souris, Manitoba Canada Married: Annie Black from Clochlea, Isle of Lismore in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada in 1881 was a shipwright and sailed on cargo ships. Charles McLean (Uncle of Hector and brother of John) Born: 1827 (June 16?) Died August 13, 1928 at the age of 101 years, one month, 29 days. Never married. Believe he may have been a stone mason/cutter. Homesteaded in Little Souris Manitoba Canada. John McLean (Uncle of Hector and brother of Charles) Date of birth on headstone is 1835 Died: December 21, 1912 in Little Souris, Manitoba ( This would have put John at age 77, however the obituary notice said he was 87 when he passed) Married: a widow Flora McLean who had a daughter Mrs. Dr. Robertson of Winnipeg, Manitoba. John homesteaded an adjoining section of land to Charles. We have been told that he was noted for his poetry during his residence on Tyree. EXTRA NOTES: all three men emigrated to Canada in the fall of 1878. From what we gather from the obituary notices, they and two other McLean families emigrated together and all spent the winter of 1878 in Kincardine in Bruce County, Ontario. We have no knowledge of the other families or what became of them after they reached Ontario. We would like to know : (a) where they resided in Tyree and (b) who the parents/other siblings of these men were. Anything else would be regarded as a bonus!! Contact: Abel DuSable |
