| MacDonald Contributions from Keith MacDonald Dash 1. My great-grandfather was John MacDonald, a blacksmith and crofter at Balinoe. He emigrated to Australia in 1853, during the famine years, with his (second) wife Flora Campbell and surviving children Catherine, Hugh and Hector. Catherine was my great-grandmother - she married Edward Dash in 1866. The MacDonalds had been blacksmiths at Balinoe for generations. John's brother, Donald, and their father, also John, were blacksmiths there and I think their grandfather, Donald, was also a blacksmith. Do you know where the old Balino smith or blacksmith's house might have been? |

My ancestors, Neil and Mary MACDONALD of Coll are thought to have been on the schooner Dunlap or Dunlop when it sailed from Tobermory in 1820 to Cape Breton, Novas Scotia Canada. Does anyone have any information on this passage with passenger lists etc ? I would be most grateful to be able to confirm that they were passengers on this ship. |
