Remember all of the fun of HOT WHEELS when you were a kid? Somehow, you kinda feel silly playing with them nowadays? Well, not anymore. Challenge the computer or a friend to a race of the mini-vehicle of your choice. Tanks, hotrods & more await. All without having to pick up the cars afterwards. |
| Micro Machines is the CD-i version of the Genesis & NES classic. Does it measure up to it's other incarnations? Sadly, No. Graphicly, the game is very slow to animate, with lots of jitter on certain tracks. While the colors & definition of the backgrounds are higher, the subsequent lack of speed & fluid animation just doesn't cut it. However, when playing against a friend, you may never even notice. Thats what really makes this game shine, it's fun as a two-player competition. There are so few good two-player action games on the CD-i that this is a welcome sight. |

The biggest mystery in this game is the sound. Basicly, there isn't any. No whirring of helicopter blades, no roaring of motors, no nothing. A real let down. While it does have a semi-nice rock soundtrack, the lack of game sounds, coupled with the lack of ability to turn off the music really detract from the game. I also found it odd that, even in the brief videos for each vehicle, you got engine noise & sound effects. Control seemed mediocre. One nice touch to it though is the ability to share one controler for two players. Good if you don't have the splitter. But sometimes, it just seemed too rigid. |
| Overall, this game just seemed rushed. The CD-i is more than capable of handling this game, all it would have taken is just a little more refinement. Poor animation, mediocre controls, lack of sound all added up to not much in the way of fun. Too bad too, it could have been a really good port. |
