Here's a multimedia title that any true jazz fan would love to sink their teeth into. Music and biographical information on some of the greatest musicians in jazz. This is really what the CD-i's musical multimedia series was supposed to do. Provide entertainment, and information. True, this does not use the MPEG card, or contain much in the way of full motion video, but its not lacking charm or substance.

Being a devote of alot of differnt genres of music, this title appealed to me. I enjoyed the music, and did get a bit of a kick watching the almost "POPUP VIDEO" style bio as the music played. To me, the whole thing seemed entertaining. I found it odd that some of the forefathers of jazz were left out, but then I suppose licensing of some of the bigger names would have prevented them from being included at a workable cost. A loss, but does not diminish from the quality of this disc.

The audio is crisp, surprizing for the age of some of the tracks on the CD. A welcome treat in multimedia titles. The old beat club marque graphics add a nice touch to the overall presentation. Combine that with an attempt at a jukebox style interface (see right), and you've got a very solid presentation that jazz fans, as well as newcomers to the jazz scene can pick up and enjoy with ease.

To sumarize. Not the flashiest graphics. Not high-paced, or action packed. Just a good representation of the the artform. The limited number of total songs may be off-putting, but its not too few, so its good for the occasional play. Pick it up once in a while and enjoy a good time.
