The creator of this web site and the Skipper of the s/v  "Restless Rosie" is Gary Duke. I'm relatively new to sailing, being sailing only 3 years, but have followed in the steps of many before me by reading;reading and reading more, until the basics were learned. Then I took one lesson. After the lesson I bought my first sailboat.  It was a 1978 23ft. O'Day. I bought it at a marina for $700.00. She was morred only about 15 n/m away from where my future slip and home to be.  It took me 12 hrs to sail it home. Of course all went wrong!. There was no wind and the outboard motor loaned to me quit working (Of course in the middle of the night),.  Wow! What an introduction
that was to sailing.  I kept this boat for 3 weeks and put a good wax job on her and traded her plus $500.00 for a 1976 Bayliner Buccaneer 270. She had 2 feet of water in her cabin and was a total mess.  I spent a whole year fixing her up, compleatly taking everything off boat all the way to the sole. Finally after many leasons learned and countless hours of labor I sold her to a nice gentleman for $4,800.  I spent about $1,200 on her,so I made a few bucks on that deal. I'm a good friend with the new owner and plan of going sailing on her with her new captain.

I then one month later bought a 1974 Pearson 10m.  She is a beautiful boat and she is currently on the Hard in Annapolis,Md  getting recommisioned for Offshore sailing. this boat is "Restless Rosie",renamed from her previous name of "What Next".  I'll be doing the majority of the work on her since I'm a real believer that if you work on your own boat then you will know her well.
I plan on all the work done by summer of 2007.  Most of the improvements are in the form of additional electronics;SSB radio;; and electricity production(Wind generaator and Solor panels);also a Autopilot(St-4000).new stove(Seawaard Princess) and new propane lines and propane heater;Water maker is a Pur Power Survivor-35,capable of producing 5gal/hr.. I'll sum up all the cost and hrs involved when finished and show total cost of  getting boat upgraded for safe offshore passages.  The bulkheads have been reinforced along with new chain plates installed and floors reinforced. My first offshore singlehanded passage will hopefully be summer of 2001. Increased water storage will be added along with increased fuel storage.

After 5 years of working on her "Restless Rosie" is almost ready! Still have to buy and install radio tuner(SGC-230) and Solar poanels(2-85 watts Shell) and she will be ready for trip south! Will finish this work in Summer of 2007 and in October of that year will head for florida then on to the British Virgin Islands!
Total cost of all improvements thus far is over $25,000!
