Notes for MICHAEL MILLER:
He served in the Continental Militia, remember Cowpens and Kings mountain,
this was during the American Revolution in the South, 1775-1781.
Military note: During the Revolutionary War, was pressed into service
in S. C. as a Tory; taken prisoner in 1778 in Frederick, Maryland, during
the Battle of Cedar Springs; paroled and served in Roebuck's Regiment
and was paid for his service and duties in 1786. The Tories listed MICHAEL
MILLER as a AWOL in 1778. Michael Miller acted in the capacity of Patriot
and Soldier. He took oath of Allegiance in Frederick, Co., Maryland
in 1776. Upon marriage to Nancy Vernon, they received a parcel of land
across the Tyger River facing the present homestead of James J. Vernon,
ancestor of Alexander Vernon.
He was taken prisoner in the Battle of Cedar Springs by Capt. Ralph
Smith and Miller exclaimed. "I am darn glad for it for I have been trying
to get away from them (Tories) for sometime." He was later paroled.

in Orangeburg, S. C. and died in Clay Co., MS.
One of the first white settlers of Colifax (Clay) County, Mississippi.
Left in the Fall of 1844 from Orangeburg District, S.C. and settled
near Palo Alto, 15 miles NW of where West Point now is; home place West
of the McLemore place. Arrived with four children: Wm. Henry, James
Michael, Mary Jane with Thomas Wesley who was in the oven and was born
soon after they did on 2/4/1845. Acquired land from Palo Alto north
to Trebloc (Colbert spelled backward) and eastward bordering L.J. and
Mary Rhea Foster's and Carlisle land.

Notes for JAMES MICHAEL MILLER:
Military in CSA, MS Infantry. Mortally wounded in the Battle
of Chickamauga in Sept. 1863; was carried to an Atlanta hospital
where he died six weeks later. His mother Sylvinia and sister
Mary Jane traveled by train and boat to reach his bedside. The
boat was burned the next day after they were on it. They remained
at his side until his death and brought his body back to be buried
at the Palo Alto Cemetery.

Military in CSA, MS Infantry. Thomas Wesley returned alive at
War's end after being captured and carried up to a prison on Lake
Michigan. When Thomas Wesley came home from the War, his dog,
who had not seen him during the years of his absence, met him
some distance from the house.

Military in 1861 in CSA, MS Infantry, 2nd Regiment; served as a private
in Company F. Given land across the road from L. J. and Mary Rhea Foster's
home near what was becoming Belle Town, near Una later. In 1849, they
built a dog-trot house of oak logs with two rooms, one of which had
a loft room when the "Wah of Northern Aggression" began in 1861.
Per R. Harold Miller William Miller moved to Clay Co., MS before February
4, 1845. At age 19 he settled at Palo Alto. His first wife's name was
Elizabeth Henley.

Some relatives have said that Samerius was a full blooded Cherokee
Indian and was from Holland Texas. This has not been proven. Buried
at Cantrell cemetery, no names or dates on the headstone. Several spellings
of Maguire or McGuire.

written by Weldon Merchant. Warren Hayne Miller while knocking cars
for jingle, he met Semerius Callahan McGuire Mercer, divorced wife of
Jim Mercer of Sedalia, MO. who was cooking at her Uncle Dash and Aunt
Nan's boarding house in Mansfield, Texas, while caring for her four
year daughter, Esther and one year old Lillie. One course on thing led
to another and Warren had a cook and successive generation got an "Aunt
Ninnie." While in Holland, Texas, five Millers were born: Warren Henry
(this should be Warren Hayne per R. Harold Miller) Walter Guy, Arthur,
Harry and Maggie.

Notes for ARTHUR HILL MILLER: One half sister named Esther Mercer.
She lived in Artesian and worked as a governess for a rich family. One
half sister named Lillie or Lille Mercer.
Buried in Cantrell Cemetery. Arthur was a carpenter, early on a part
time farmer, county road contractor, and we think he was a part time
mail carrier. Arthur said that he was born in Abbott in 1892 to R. Harold
Miller. He said he went to live in Holland, TX for a short while with
his dad in 1898, by train.
Uncle Hayne said that his grandpa worked on the railroad and was living
in Texas when his dad, William Henry Miller called him back to Mississippi
to take over the family land, which he later lost. AHM may have meant
he lived there until 1898. He said his dad went to look at or buy some
farmland.
