Westminster def. Greenville (3-0)
15-17, 6-15, 4-15
(9/27/00 at Greenville)

September 27th - A very difficult homestand continued for Greenville on Wednesday as they fell in three sets to Westminster 15-17, 6-15, 4-15. The Lady Panthers jumped out to a strong start behind a pair of Julia Wheeler kills to take a 2-0 lead. The offense struggled soon after, however, as Westminster pressured Greenville into 5 straight errors, and Greenville trailed 3-8. An outstanding run of offense led mainly by Michea McKay kills rallied G.C. all the way back for an 11-8 lead. As the two teams battled back and forth, Westminster slowly crawled back into a 13-13 tie only to see Greenville take the next point to give them a 14-13 lead. Greenville had a couple of chances to finish the set, but could never put Westminster away as the visitors rallied late to take the 15-17 win. Michea McKay had a superb game finishing with 8 kills on an exhausting 22 attempts. Julia Wheeler added 4 kills on just 9 attempts as well.

The loss in game one seemed to demoralize the Panthers as they never regained their early level of intensity or concentration. Westminster took advantage as they rolled to wins in sets two and three by scores of 6-15 and 4-15. Michea McKay had another good offensive night for Greenville as she finished with 14 kills and a .278 hitting percentage. Sarah Swanson had a tremendous night on defense finishing with a career high 23 digs. Swanson was also rock solid on serve receive converting 38 of her 40 opportunities.

Mental and physical errors hampered Greenville all night as they could never get momentum built up due to some inconsistent play as well as a very tough Westminster defense. "We just seemed out of it tonight at times," commented Head Coach Rick McPeak. "Our girls looked a little down after Tuesday's loss, plus this was our sixth match in the past ten days." The loss dropped Greenville's record to 5-9 and they will conclude their very difficult 6-game homestand on Friday with a match against Rose Hulman at 7:00.
