GM Spotlight
OOBL Insider: Congratulations on your WS win! You must be very proud of your guys! Any comments?
Steve Lee: Thank you very much.  I am very proud of my guys for giving the franchise another world championship.  I just want to congratulate the players, the coaches, the entire staff for this amazing oppurtunity, and I hope we can do this again next season.

OI: What will be your biggest challenge in repeating as Champions?
SL: The biggest challenge will be getting back to the World Series for another shot at the championship.  We expect to lose Gonzo thru free agency, and some other key players thru the expansion draft.  So we need to be creative in how we fill those roles, so we can stay competitive and one of the top teams in the OOBL.

OI: What is your baseball philosophy as GM?
SL: The Arizona Diamondback's philosophy is to focus on putting together a competitive team by obtaining ball players via free agency, trade or draft, whatever it takes to put together a winning team. More specifically, we believe pitching is very important if we want to be a playoff team. We will never be in complete rebuild mode, if need be, we will try to rebuild and compete at the same time.

OI: So where do you see your team in 5 years?
SL: In 5 years, we will be competing at the highest level, striving for a spot in the playoffs.., that is if i'm still running things around here

OI: Which team is your biggest rival?
SL: St. Louis, because they pulled off a 2002 National League Championship series victory over us.

OI: Who, if anyone is you favorite player in your organization? Why?
SL: Curt Schilling because I've always been a fan of pitching and he's a class guy to have around the other players.  His presence raises everybody's morale and really forms a kind of team unity that i've never witnessed before.

OI: How much longer do you think Curt will dominate the league? We are hearing retirement rumours. Any truth?
SL:  I think Curt, at his age and the amount of innings he's logged the last few years, can dominate for at least 1-2 more seasons.  As for the retirement rumors, you're going to have to ask Curt.  He has made no mentions to me or anyone I know of about him retiring anytime soon.  With 2 championship rings, that would probably be good enough reason for him to retire but with his desire to compete and there being no signs of him slowing down on the mound, he may not retire anytime soon.

OI: Who is your favorite player in the league (not on your team)? Why?
SL: Alex Rodriguez, he's simply amazing

OI: Many have wondered why there has been very little boasting or gloating coming out of Arizona. I can just imagine the stuff I'd say after polishing off the Yankees. Are you really that humble?
SL: Well, I don't really believe we should rub this in other peoples faces. We've done our celebrating, and we continue to do so. they know we won, we know we won and that's all there is to it.  It was a good series, we all played our hearts out, but there had to be a victor, and fortunately it was us.

OI:
Wow, that's very noble of you. So how did you celebrate your victory?
SL: I treated myself to many, many beautiful escorts...if you know what i mean... hehe
OI: AHH-HAAA...so the truth comes outs! You haven't been gloating because you've found errrr , other use for you time! Seriously though, thanks for taking time away from Bambi, Ginger, Kitten, and Venus to talk with us. Good luck in the upcoming season!
