August 13-15, 20-22 6 Games - 3 at The Vet, 3 at Wrigley
Why is it important? Chicago leads the NL Central by just 1,5 games and lead the Phillies by just 3 games for the Wild Card. Philly will probably not catch the Mets, but winning this series would really help out their Wild Card chances. Major Injuries: Philadelphia: SP Ismael Valdes will miss the first 3 games. Chicago: none (Rolen should be 100%) Matchup stats: Philly .271 BA 4.08 ERA 36-23 home 30-29 away 12-21 1-run Cubs .266 BA 4.57 ERA 34-25 home 35-24 away 24-16 1-run Prediction: These teams seem just about even. But I think the Cubs luck in 1-run game will catch up to them...that, and the Phillies superior pitching. Philadelphia 4-2

Why was it important? This series may be the turning point in the race for the AL Central Crown. Coming into this sim, KC was leading the division by a game. Chicago took the last 3 games between these two and went on to win 9 in a row to lead the Central by 3 games. Meanwhile the Royals continued to struggle and finished the sim a shocking 6.5 games out of first.
Game 1 August 2 Chicago, IL KC 4 CWS 2 SP Ponson pitched masterfully, allowing just 1 ER over 7 innings. Royal batters scratched out 8 hits on Buerle to get 4 runs and a victory.
Game 2 August 3 Chicago, IL KC 3 CWS 4 The Big Hurt set the tone with a 3-run bomb in the first inning. Cedeno's 2nd inning RBI triple provided P Tim Hudson all the run support he would need. Huddy scattered 7 hits over 8 innings and the Royals did not score after the 3rd.
Game 3 August 4 Chicago, IL KC 4 CWS 5 The White Sox exploded for 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th, in a heartbreaking loss for Kansas City. Reliever R. Hernandez got shelled allowing 4 runs in just 2/3 innings.
Game 4 August 5 Chicago, IL KC 3 CWS 4 Another game, another loss, another collapse by the Royal bullpen. Again Hernandez let his team down, allowing 2 9th inning runs. Tim Hummel was again the hero, this time with a walkoff 2-run single.
