Danger Man - The Full Discography
"If I ever lose my faith in you" by Sting was the #17 song of 1993 according to the Wikipedia page on Sting, but it is not mentioned in the list of 1993 Singles.

Have you heard the true story of "
Possession" by Sarah McLachlan? She had a real life stalker who used to send her these weird letters, so she turned them in to a song.  The guy tried to sue her for using his letters, but he committed suicide before the trial.  Even if that were not true, it is still a haunting song.

The first time I heard the song "Atlantic City" I was driving a rental car to Norfolk late one night, and somewhere on I-95 outside Richmond, I was scanning radio stations, and this song came on.  It had only been a few months since I lived in Philadelphia, so I recognized a lot of the things they mention in the song as authentic, including the crime, corruption, and urban decay.

Do you remember that the group "Squeeze" was first called "U.K. Squeeze" on the "No Wave" blue vinyl album that came out in the 1970s?  That was also the first time I heard "Roxanne" by the Police. "Tempted" was their most recognized hit, but why is it on an album of 1994 hits?  The song was used in the soundtrack for the film "
Reality Bites" which came out that year.  This led to a comeback tour by Squeeze, and I actually saw them in concert in Norfolk on a cold winter night.  Imagine the Ma-J in the "mosh pit" with a hundred screaming fans!?

The album "Tigerlily" by Natalie Merchant came out in 1995 and had four major hits. I used to listen to the cassette while driving to another Navy installation in southern Maryland. The song "Carnival" reminds me of so many things including New Orleans where I went for a conference. I remember walking around the Convention Center and standing on the very spot where those people were stranded.  But the French Quarter was awesome, especially the coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde.  New Orleans will rise again!

The song "Pensacola" is just one on the "Relish" album that I could have included, but it has such vivid imagery- like the sand, and the Gospel, and the transcripts.  I missed my chance to see Joan Osborne live at a jazz club in New Orleans while I was there - and I will kick myself forever for not going.  During Easter week 1996, the song "One of Us" reached the top 10.  That was the same week that comet Hyakutake came within a million miles of the earth's north pole, and was visible all night with a tail that stretched across the sky, easily visible from the light-polluted D.C. suburbs..

For some reason whenever I hear "Ordinary World" I think of
Princess Diana. I always felt that she was just looking for some kind of a normal life after being caught up in the bizarre world of the Winsdors.

"I Will Remember You" is my tribute to Diana and to
John Kennedy Jr who died a year later on the anniversary of the moon landing, thirty years after the same night Uncle Ted drove his car off a bridge. Prior to 9-11 those were the last two times when I could say "Where were you ... ?" when you heard the news. I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when they broke in on the television to say that Diana was dead, or that John John's plane was missiing.  And then the media was in a feeding frenzy, with around the clock television coverage creating a continuous feedback loop in which the media was no longer a passive observer but an active participant in the emotional experience - like we saw in September 2001, and again in New Orleans in 2005.

Back CD Cover- actual size
"Take Me To The Nuclear Wessels" - that line was spoken by Checkov in the movie "Star Trek IV The Voyage Home."  They were in Long Beach California, which like Norfolk Virginia is the largest base on that coast with nuclear aircraft carriers.  The picture above, which I found on the web, is the Enterprise.  While in Norfork, I saw another aircraft carrier, I think it was the Constellation, come down the river to the shipyard past the buildings in Norfolk harbor, and it dwarfed all the buildings around it, including the Norfolk Waterside Marriott hotel where I stayed.

In addition to the badge below, there was a little insert that was supposed to change color if you had been exposed to radiation.  But lets face it, if that happened, you were already toast.
